well, John's a player, but he also has the electronics know how, the soldering skills, and the obsession with tone to do the mods ... I personally wouldn't have the patience to mess with those little boards!

I've never seen John say so, but I imagine he spent a good deal of time tweaking his mods till they were just right

if someone told you that you could have boutique pedal tone for $80 or so, you'd laugh, but that's basically what it boils down to

Curly you're a smart buddy and you're right...Actually I started out on vintage Marshall and fender tube amps...Very basic circuits of resistors,caps,diodes,tubes,and transformers...I did the same thing with my amps,but I was also fortunate to get some cool info from guys like Ken Fischer,Trace Allen,Dave Funk,and the many books I've read on the subject...The pedals are pretty close to the same idea also..I'm also a constant tweaker as you know with everything from guitar setups,pickups,amps,pedals,making my own nuts,building guitars from parts etc...I just love it so much.. :dance:

Hehe yeah....I don't like to invent the plate one more time, what would the point be?
We refine our stuff, some are to somes preference, others more the way I like it personally, the whole things takes tons of time, you give a prototype for testing to gigging people you know, they give clues and great input, nothing like using the working people!
But they never have a saying soundwise, I go solely for what I like, otherwise I'll end up with a corrupted semidone product nobody will like!
You seem to have the same attitude, go for what you love!
That is why stuff gets good, passion and patience....man sometimes my hair gets grey'er over this
But it is worth alot in the other end!
I think it is awesome that people here are pleased over their tools sounding great!
Speaks lenghts about you man!!

Yup, he modded one for me and it sure rocks!!! I just received a notice from the post office, looks like my modded SD-1 is here...I'll post a review soon...

from experience, the stock mit ds-1 is unusable for what i do. bunch of chainsaw highs! mids are not defined. in a word, like john described, harsh. not very pleasing to the ears at all. sold it in a week.

just bought a "stratdeluxed" ds-1 off john and i am gonna give it a good workout once it arrives. but judging from the rave reviews that john gets, i am sure i would be a happy camper.

Thanks for the positive feelings Dani....You'll like the modded version..It's warmer,doesn't have the fuzzy stuff riding over your notes,sounds and reacts better with your amp's preamp,has more lows,and just sounds alot better overall...

Read what Doc Barlo wrote about his modded DS-1...I respect Doc's ears and his knowledge...Do a search on that..

Oh phenomenal MRID....See these types of posts make my whole day! Gosh I Love when you guys take the time to tell me this! :cool3: Keeley's modded DS1 didn't impress me...A musician buddy has one of his SEM and Ultra mod...I'm a guitar player with really good ears for tone and have my own ideas on what works...Keeley is not really a guitar player and does things from an engineers side of things with musicians around him...It makes a difference having experienced ears doing the mods...Not to blow my own horn,but it's just the truth...Glad you like the pedal buddy...Sure couldn't beat the price either! LOL I also need to tell you all that Robert Keeley is a heckuva nice guy and I'm in no way saying I dislike what he's done..I Just like my DS1s better is all... :smack:
