Right PUP Height?

So I have struggled with my passive PUPs for months now.

I have EMGs (81-85) In a Gibson V (Mahogany) and love it.

But I have some SH-8 Invadrers in a Jackson KING V Pro, Cant tell if its alder or basswood. Its so **** muddy sounding its pissing me right off.

So what is the suggested height of a passive PUP. Actives are as close as possible to the string but that rule does not apply for passives.

I love the invader and hate to part ways with it, but I cant find the tone i desire from them.

Can anyone who relates, use invaders, or have used them please help.:sigh:

Re: Right PUP Height?

Why do you love the Invader if you can't find the right sound with them?

Try Artie's de-mud mod. Try coils in parallel on a switch.

Re: Right PUP Height?

The reason I love the Invader is because my buddy has an invader that i installed in a seven string and it makes shredded beef tacos like none other. I just cant seem to get mine to even get close. I mean i have taken into account string number, scale size and wood type, but it should not sound worlds different. His PUP happens to be about a 1/4" to no less than 1/8" away from the strings.

So please elaborate on the MOD of Artie's. Can you give me a diagram etc. Im a noob to the whole MOD world. :boggled:
