Rio BBQ or Custom SH-5?

Getting closer. It is for a LP. I want balls, sustain and some distortion. It must have a good lead sound. I have heard good things about both of these. Any clips......? please

I have tried a C5 and BBQ in my LP's...The C5 was very clean and articulate sounding with huge bass and scooped mids. I've since swapped it out for a BBQ and couldn't be happier. The BBQ sounds HUGE with sweet mids for soloing and a large bottom as well. It's the best pup that I've tried to date. The harmonic overtones that this pickup produces are amazing.

I couldn't have said it any better. I replaced two JBs in two Hamers for BBQs and was blown away at the tones I could achieve with the BBQ.

What pots are you using with the BBQ??

I think he's talking about the Duncan Custom...

I love the SH-5 by the way! Perfecty balanced, aggressive, tight pickup. Love the thumping lows, the cutting mids, and the crystal cut highs. GREAT pickup. Some would argue one of Seymour's finest. Definetely satisfying.

I just don't like that i find the Custom a little hard and cold. Maybe this is the trademark of the ceramic magnet but I find the JB much warmer and rounder.

Nope...I meant the C5. I've tried both the SH5, the C5 as well as the BBQ in my LP. You're correct in saying that the SH5 has cutting mids however, I felt that the C5 was lacking mids.

I would give the Custom a try. Surely if you don't like it there's another Duncan pup to suit your tastes

I am sure you will agree that the BBQ is the fattest and warmest of the three.

The only pickup I like as much is the JB.

I want to try some Andersons however!

Custom all the way, it yells get out of my way with a aggressive dominate tone.

if you have a soldering iron (less that $20 from radioshack) it's pretty darn easy. You might want to practice a bit on something not to valuable if you have never soldered before. but it's no problem. I changed the pups on my PRS in less than 1/2 hour last week (and thats with wiring to a circuit board to boot)
