Re: RMC Wheels of Fire

Colorsound wahs are not for everybody thats for sure but neither is the Vox/Crybaby sound...

Dave, since you use modded Crybabys I have to assume you has a specific tone in mind so none of these wahs are really gonna do it for you.

I like that sound but I dunno if I could live off ot it...

Re: RMC Wheels of Fire

Funny I returned an RMC Real McCoy and have been using my own modded 847 Vox since like 93 or so when it was a reissue...Each and every wah has it's own sound..No two are alike..

Re: RMC Wheels of Fire

That video did not do it for me. I did not like the tone of that wah at all. Different strokes for different folks. Maybe it was the playing but it sounded pretty bland to me.

I like all of the RMC wahs but I also do not like to tweak. I recently was considering upgrading my vintage crybaby(Thomas Organ Co.) due to some problems I was having but I wound up getting it fixed and it works great. I recently bought another which I intend to use as a backup. It could become my main wah I will make that decision when I get it & I can play the two of them side by side. My old Crybaby does it for me. It does have some issues but minor.... overall it is my favorite. I also have two others but the vintage crybaby does what I want.

Glad the CB is working out for ya Dave...It was ok to mention my name pal...Lol....Your other wah I will get out to you Monday...

You had a Picture wah correct??

That's one of the greatest vintage Vox voiced wahs out there but my Wilson Signature wah had the slight upper hand!

Yes you're correct on that...$245 worth of money wasted...I'm quite happy with my own wahs and I'm able to voice them for my specific likings and music styles...It's fun and I get the satisfaction of modding my own stuff...The tweaker in me! ;o)

I hear ya...your wahs are not true vintage voiced so I could see you being a bit unhappy with a Picture wah but if you can do it yourself thats even better for you!

Actually I strive for the early CB/Vox tones but I make it possible to tweak the adjustments on some of the wahs via trim pots...I don't really stray too far away from the vintage tones I grew up hearing..Depends on the wah and who I Modded it for...My buddy handed me the very first version JH1 wah and we went nuts with it...He loves it..Voiced differently.. ;o)

Interesting...the wah you built that I tried had a wider sweep and more gain than the old school Vox wahs...

Not that it natters much...you know what you like and thats all good!

Depends on what resistance value I decide to use to Q1...I also normally just use an adjustable pot so a guy can dial the gain anywhere from say 270 ohms up to the Vox value of 470and 510 ohms...After that,it's really a combination of good caps, inductor, and a pot that has good sweep..I don't like my wah tone to be too thin and peaky...I have also modded some wahs to be very similar to the higher gain RMC wah and I'm not sure which wah(or whos wah)you peaked inside,so I'm at a loss there.. ;o) I've modded quite a few though!

you know I really don't know what it is. My Wahs are modded(John did all but one) but I am sure I could find a good sounding wah out of the box. I have a Vox Clyde McCoy which is a really good wah, but I find it to be a tad to bright with the toe down, but it could be because I am using it with my Deluxe Reverb. I think the sweep is just a touch different and they now have a bit more gain when engaged.

At one point in time I had 4 wahs...I had the old CB you just bought,an 848 and two 847s....All were modded and each one sounded different..My favorite is the one 847 that I've kept and used all these years..

Re: RMC Wheels of Fire

Yeah, that demo is awful.

Colorsounds sound fantastic-I think that guy should re-think that demo

Here's a better one- you can skip ahead to 2:15-ish if you like :D

Right on!

That's what I am talking about...

B :cool3:

Re: RMC Wheels of Fire

Mars Hall, I saw your thread about this same stuff on TGP...just be warned, the reissue Colorsound Wahs are NOT the same circiut as either of the vintage Colorsound wahs...the overall tone is sort of close but if you've ever played a vintage Colorsound and have that tone in your head, IMHO the reissues do not cut the mustard...
