Roasted Bodies Stability Questions

Has anyone tried a guitar build with a roasted body from warmoth?

I decided for my build that I am going to use Swamp Ash for the wood, but hadn't decided if I am going to have them roast it or not.

Anyone have any experience with roasted bodies, particularly in regions where the temperature and humidity varies wildly throughout the year?

One of the reasons I am considering having them roast the body is for stability. I live in a hot and humid area and want the body to be as stable as possible despite changes in temperature and humidity. Aesthetics, at least on the top, are a non-issue since they're putting a laminate top on it anyway.

For regions with greater variance in temperature and humidity, will roasting the body improve stability?

Thanks,
GreatOz

Re: Roasted Bodies Stability Questions

Roasting supposedly removes much of the natural moisture in the wood, stabilizing the cells... Permanently, as I understand.

That's what I gather as well. My only question is whether it "seals" it up or since its so dry it makes it even more prone to moisture/humidity if not finished. Also I wonder if it would be more likely to develop cracks and checking or if that is in fact negated by the drying process thereby sealing it.

Seems a rather new technique/process so there's not many old examples or people experience to draw from as far as I know.

This is my single-biggest hesitation in getting a roasted body. I do not know if Warmoth seals the bodies after they make them, if they do, then it's not really an issue. If they don't then I wonder if the roasting could actually make it worse in the long run, especially where I live.

Necks are different since they do seal and finish them, but the neck I am getting is full rosewood anyway and they do not offer a roasted rosewood neck option.

Yea I hear ya, hang tight cause Im sure someone will be along to shed some light on this. Or you could holler at Warmoth and run your concerns past them. If you do please post their response unless of course someone here can help.

I personally hate the tone of roasted Maple necks. To me they are dead and lack life.
Check this out.

Another Roasted vs regular maple neck To me roasted maple sounds dead and dull.

Re: Roasted Bodies Stability Questions

I can't really make a judgement call from a video. I'd have to actually play one. I am open to the idea, though.

I emailed them, and they said that they do not seal the bodies unless the body is getting a finish, but that is true regardless if they roast the body or not.

Re: Roasted Bodies Stability Questions

I'd love the long term effects on tone and stability on a roasted body. I like the idea, and I am all for it if it actually does something good for both, and not just a fad thing.

Re: Roasted Bodies Stability Questions

It takes wood a long time to soak up water. Unless you’re leaving the guitar body in a bucket of water for extremely long periods of time, you have nothing to worry about.

I don't even understand what an "unstable" guitar body would do,,,,,,,or not do??????????
