Roasted necks???

I NEED HELP123

On musikraft's website you have the option between light roasted and medium roasted necks. They say, and I've heard that roasted necks are super stable.

Is a medium roast more stable than a light roasted neck??

also, I've heard that Tommy from USACG no longer works at USACG and that customer service now is crap. Where should I order now?
I want the following specs:
-roasted birdseye maple (fretboard also)
-banana headstock
-floyd rose nut
-glow in the dark sidedots
-black fretboard dots
-square heel
- 12-16 compound radius
-6100ss frets

Warmoth doesn't sell roasted necks with banana headstock.

Re: Roasted necks???

I believe a roasted maple neck doesn't need a finish on it to be stable. That is a plus for me. I think the amount of 'roasting' has more to do with the color than stability, however.

Re: Roasted necks???

the roasting does stabilize the wood. It doesn't just remove moisture, it crystalizes the residual resins in the material. I absolutely like it.

About no finish: imho maple doesn't need a finish but I do it anyway for discoloration. People tend to get anal about discolored maple due to their own grime...

As for roasted birdseye + banana: what about musikraft? also great guys.

Re: Roasted necks???

the only thing Musikraft does not do is the square heel for as far as I was able to see. the rest, no problem. *unless they don't roast birdseye but I could not find that on their site*

the roast thing is a seperate thing you need to do in your cart. If you go to musikraft>home>build custom neck and then on the bottom of the page you will find roasted neck option.

I think that if i send them an email i can get a square heel banana neck.

Has anyone recently ordered from musikraft?? how was the quality?? fretwork??

you misunderstand me. I know Musikraft well and I know that in the past they didn't offer roasted birdseye, only flamed. I am not sure if they have their own kil now. Most builders buy their maple already roasted in the woodmill because it is a bit tricky to roast it.

As for their quality: not better or worse than warmoth imho. I had to level the neck I ordered to get the action close to 2/64'' on high E and 3/64'' on low E with a neck dead flat because that's how I like it. but in general: good stuff.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I will send them an email.

When did you order and receive the neck that you leveled? And did you do the level yourself?? I know how to do a level but I'm afraid I will **** up my expensive neck.

Re: Roasted necks???

I ordered mine way back in 2014. I level myself. I build my own guitars but then, i wasn't tooled up for strat style necks so i had that done. Now i just do that in house too.

About ****ing it up. Install the neck first. See how that works out, if it needs leveling at all. Then level with a leveling beam or straight edge. Never with a file. Take your time and just enjoy the work. They do a pretty good job you know.

Not as good as Aristides but fairly close.

Re: Roasted necks???
