Robben Ford question.

Hope this is the right place for this . . .

I don't usually concern myself with other's tone, but I love that spanky/plucky/snappy sound that Robben gets on "Tell Me I'm Your Man".

Anyone know what equipment he might be using there?
Thanks all;

Artie

Edit: I can get pretty close using my bridge 59.

Re: Robben Ford question.

That's on the same CD as that Duke Ellington tune: I Ain't Got Nothin' But the Blues?

If it's the song I'm thinking of, I thought it was a Tele...but maybe it's his semi-hollowbody Fender Espirit (the one that became the Fender Robben Ford model) with the 59N and JB.

Sounds like he's playing with his thumb and fingers to get that popping sound.

Re: Robben Ford question.

Its the CD thats just called - "Robben Ford & The Blue Line", but it definitely sounds like "thumb-pop". Its one of my favorite guitar sounds after "Sultans of Swing" tone. ;)

Re: Robben Ford question.

I think I know the tune you're talking about Artie. Robben does play with his fingers alot and live, I like the sound he gets from his Tele when he brings it down and plays quietly and very clean. Some of my favorite moments when I've heard Robben play were when he did that. My guess would be that it's a Tele and he's using his fingers and his thumb to pop and snap the strings Albert Collins style. Lew

Re: Robben Ford question.

Thats interesting. I would've never guessed Tele. His tone is becoming one of the few that I actually seek.
Or perhaps, I should say, his technique.

Re: Robben Ford question.

Yeah...he has an old Tele with a rosewood fingerboard. He plays it quite a bit. His "signature" tone is probably the tone of humbuckers through a Dumble, but I like his tone on a Tele just as much or better. Lew

Lew, you beat me to it. I agree 100% with your reply...
