Rock and metal guys what strings are you using?

Re: Rock and metal guys what strings are you using?

I use d addario 10-52 for drop tuning and ten's otherwise. if not playing metal its either daddario 9's or SIT 9's

Re: Rock and metal guys what strings are you using?

LaBella HRS 10-46 on my Agile and 9-42 on my Ibanez.

Re: Rock and metal guys what strings are you using?

Ernie Ball 10-52 on my Tele, 335 and Jazzmaster (all three tuned Eb)...Ernie Ball 10-46 on my Strat (tuned Drop Db)

Re: Rock and metal guys what strings are you using?

EVH. I used to use Ernie Ball, but I've noticed a real difference with the EVH's. They seem to have more brilliance and sparkle, and they last longer. My last pair of EB's was dead in about an hour.

Re: Rock and metal guys what strings are you using?

Pyramid 13-52 flatwounds on the ES125T and the Firebird, D'Dad 9-46 on most of the solid bodies, 10-46 on the LP's. Never changed the strings on the PRS or the G&L as They play great and I'm too lazy to do new setups.

Ouch. Sounds like serious oils coming from your hands.

Oils are not the cause of EB's going dead quickly(or being dead straight out of the packaging). I'm oily as hell, and i could usually get about 5 hours of play time out of a set of D'Ad's in the 11 years i used them. elixirs still last upwards of 4 months playing 5-6 hours a week.

Re: Rock and metal guys what strings are you using?

Have any of you elixir users tried cleartones? Do they last as long as elixirs?

Re: Rock and metal guys what strings are you using?

I recently tried whatever martin calls their new coated long life strings. I got 5 boxes for $4 each for some promotion at GC.

They friggin suck. Straight back to Elixirs.

Re: Rock and metal guys what strings are you using?

For my Guitars set for Drop C Tuning I use D'Addario EXL-117 because they're affordable, have just the right amount of String Tension IMO for that particular tuning (can't stand floppy tension but I immensely despise having to fight a string for a half step bend either)

But for Standard Tuning I really like the D'Addario Balanced Tension 10-46

Re: Rock and metal guys what strings are you using?

D'addarios exclusively.

9-42 on my Strat in standard tuning
10-46 on my SG in Standard
10-46, 10-49 or 10-52 on my Polaris in D standard
11-52 on my Cutlasscaster in C standard

Re: Rock and metal guys what strings are you using?

For some reason I always default back to Ernie Ball Slinkys, 10-46 in standard tuning for the Strat, Tele and Les Paul. After I cleaned up the saddles I've never had a breakage problem, and they last me long enough to justify the $4 price tag. In acoustic I always have used D'Addario PB 12's, but on my brand new HD-28V I'm experimenting from ground up, using 13's (the recommended gauge) to get the top moving.

I'll have to give Elixirs a chance again, it's been a while.

Re: Rock and metal guys what strings are you using?

D'A XL10's and 11's except on 2 guitars I've been using Roto Nickels

How do you like those??

I've been using GHS Burnished Nickels for a while now and like them. When I can't find 'em I'll use EB Rock-n-Rolls and like those too but the GHS have the slight edge I think.

Re: Rock and metal guys what strings are you using?

EB Slinky's or Rock-n-Rolls. 10-46. I play mostly tuned to A440 and occasionally tuned down half-step.

Re: Rock and metal guys what strings are you using?

D'addario balanced tension set, 10-46 gauge, standard tuning or 1/2 step down, best feeling strings I've ever tried. They also win the longevity battle which is pretty important here, stuff rusts quickly.

Re: Rock and metal guys what strings are you using?

I like ernie ball regular slinkys for downtuned and regular tuned stuff. I have been using them for so long and they don't break as much as other brands I have found.

Re: Rock and metal guys what strings are you using?

More often than not, Ernie Ball. They are far from perfect, but they are the most consistent in that price range that also sound and feel good to me. Just wish they lasted longer.
