I stripped by hand scraping the top. I didn't want to sand thru what I assumed would be a veneer and a power sander can do that in a heartbeat especially on a carved top. I used razor blades which was tedious but I was patient and it came out great. I didn't like the idea of chemical removers or a heat gun either but I may try them at some point on a basket case to see what kind of results I get.
The pickups are spec'd to '68 t-tops, made By a great local guy I am friends with, www.tonemaster.net
I avoided scraping the binding when doing the top, it got a light sanding with the rest of the top when I removed all finish.
