battle of the bands MHS 2007 will be coming up soon and i will be playing in a larger gymnasium. in the gymnasium what would i need to turn up on the eq form my normal settings to get it to sound liuke it does now. it will be turned up quite aways so that will add treble but what will be lost? i would imagine that bass would be lost, but i'm probably wrong. right now i play in a living room in a ranch style house so the sound has pretty much the entire length of the house to reverbarate.

thanks

Re: room acoustics

in general when you turn your amp up youll get more bottom end. gyms are kinda crappy sonicly, lots of echo so actually keeping the volume at a reasonable level will help with the clarity. the more bodys in there the less echo youll have to deal with

there'll be a lot of bodies, for sure. i'll be doing a lot of testing before the show.

Re: room acoustics

Gyms are hell to play in. Make sure you spend some time setting it up before the show, and also get someone to strum a few chords and walk around the building seeing if it sounds okay. Good luck

Re: room acoustics

Watch your reverb level...the room will add enough. So unless it's a heavy reverb app leave the amp dry.

Re: room acoustics

Befriend your sound dude, find out if he actually gives a damn if he is a prick ... .wel,l do something to get special treatment. Long sound check is a must, preferebly with somebody who knows your parts playing them as you stand in the middle to see how it comes across. Really helps to have stage monitors. Make shure during the sound check that drummer's snare, kick, high hat, are clearly cutting through the mix same goes to the stage monitor mix. And his kick is well stuffed with blankets and such if you are into heavy stuff. If the place does not have the PA, rent one. Other wise the sound will be kaka in this type of place.
