Rosewood Oil..... yummy!

Came home yesterday and found my two little bottles of Rosewood Oil. This stuff goes a long way, I just have to wonder why I bought two of these small bottles. One will likely do it for a long long time.

It gave my PRS rosewood neck it's old smell back. No more lemon oil.

I think I'm going to use it from all my other rosewood fretboards.

Re: Rosewood Oil..... yummy!

Scott, I was thinking about buying some of that rosewood oil you linked to before... would I apply it the same way I would lemon oil, or dilute it with a bit of water because it's so heavily concentrated?

Thanks

Re: Rosewood Oil..... yummy!

I got Erlewine's "How to Make Your Electric Guitar Play Great" today, since it was recommended by others here.
He recommends raw (not boiled) linseed oil for treating fingerboards.

Re: Rosewood Oil..... yummy!

I just put a drop on a rag and worked it all over the back of the neck. I'm skipping the fretboard right now since I just lemon oiled it a short while back.

I will not hesitate to use it on my other guitars as they need it. It has the same consistency that the 100% lemon oil has. No need to add water, and even if you did, it wouldn't mix, right? It's oil and water. ;)

I should probably revise my "so concentrated" comment. What the hell did that mean? I turned into a marketing guy for a minute. Jeez. Let me go correct that.

It is concentrated, it is oil, nothing else. It protects wood. Yet it gives wood. Very intoxicating smell to me. There's more than one reason they call rosewood crackwood.

Will that oil be available locally, or is it hard to find?
You can find it at Whole Foods and other granola-esque markets. It's often found in the aromatherapy section.

Re: Rosewood Oil..... yummy!

I found it online by doing a google search. The small bottles I bought cost like 6 bucks a piece. I found the same amounts going for 20 bucks. Cracked me up. I can't remember where I bought it. Let me go look.

Re: Rosewood Oil..... yummy!

So is there Ebonywood oil out there for my Les Paul?? LOL!!!

I've always used lemon oil or Murphy's oil soap but I want to find something more organic (or specific to ebony). Would Rosewood oil work with ebony or is there some rivalry the two have against eachother that would cause my beloved guitar to spontaneously combust??

Re: Rosewood Oil..... yummy!

The non-flammable/non-toxic Lemon Oil I've been using is mineral oil (BABY OIL) with a lemon scent. I'm going to see if I can find that Rosewood Oil though. We have both Wild Oats and Whole Foods here in Boulder. Lew

I think rosewood oil would work. I use Dr. Duck's Axe Wax on my LP Custom. Ebony tends to dry out faster than rosewood so it needs more care. I think the Dr. Duck's stuf is pretty much organic. Works real well too.

That's what I use too. I use lemon oil on the furniture I design, but Dr. Ducks on my guitars.
