Re: rosewood or maple for this build??

Actually I would really consider ebony. The contrast of the dark fingerboard on the whit body should be pretty cool, and seeing that it is basically a Tele configuration I think the Ebony will really add to that tone as well. What pickup combination are you planning on using?

Re: rosewood or maple for this build??

Maple all the way... I understand the sentiment for Ebony from a aesthetic perspective as stated but it simply doesn't suit me tonally. Too bright when you are already working with a brighter guitar configuration.

Re: rosewood or maple for this build??

Definitely maple!

You don't want an extreme contrast here (as with ebony), that contrast would be too stark and overpowering. You want more harmony and more subtle tonal changes like you would get with maple with a slight amber tint. This would compliment the aged white paint and provide plenty of contrast, and even add some warmth.

I am using a lil 59 in the bridge and a Duncan custom mini in the neck. I had considered ebony for a fretboard but I didn't want to add too much bright to this build. Im more of a mahogany fan. I want to keep it as warm as possible which is why I am running 250 k pots with the buckers. I was thinking maple with some pearl dots or rosewood with cream dots. keep the votes coming. Ive got plenty of time to decide. Nothing like waiting for paint to dry.

I have been considering a reverse headstock. I think they look super cool. Lol. I laid down the first few coats of clear yesterday while it was warm here. Going with a semi gloss on this build .

What kind of frets do you like? Jencar v Dunlop will sound diff on the same fretboard as will height crown width etc not to forget SS v alloy(s) and the new "gold" f/wire....
If you're planning on keeping this one..I would put tone and playability before visual aesthetics.

Rosewood would be the classic choice, but I'd highly prefer maple or ebony.

Re: rosewood or maple for this build??

I like Dunlop stainless steel jumbo frets. Maple would look amazing but I want to keep this warm. On the polls rosewood won out. It would certainly be a warm tone option as opposed to maple. I'm thinking rosewood with cream dots.

Maple can be bright but my maple-necked strat is fatter sounding than my RW neck telecaster and RW neck jazzmaster. Tele is swamp ash, jazzmaster (and strat) are alder. It's definitely brighter, but once everything is dialed in the sound has a girth I don't hear in my other instruments. Although, that's apples to oranges because the strat has a strabro 90 in the neck, whereas the tele has a 7.1k A2 humbucker and the Jazzmaster has a p-rails. So controlling for pickups, IDK. But even acoustic the strat sounds fatter so there's that.

The difference between a maple and a rosewood fretboard isn't huge though, I don't think. I voted RW because I think it would look better.

Really have to agree here. Rosewood would be a nice contrast, but I think the compliment that maple would give would be my choice.

Re: rosewood or maple for this build??

of the two woods tonal wise which would bring more warmth to a chambered ash guitar? I am most fond of how a maple neck with pearl dots look with this set up. But in the end I want it to be balanced tone wise.

Rosewood. Maple is more snappy.

Re: rosewood or maple for this build??

Well its looking like a clean divide between the two. I went for maple i think it would make that guitar stand out.
