Rusted Pole Pieces & Magnet Question

I have a real rusted up JB and Jazz set. Can I swap out the rusted pole pieces with similar sized screws?

What will I end up with if I swap out the ceramic SH-6 Distortion magnet with an alnico 5?

Thanks guys! Can't seem to find the answers I need on the net or in pre-existing threads.

Re: Rusted Pole Pieces & Magnet Question

Hey bro, I'm a little to confused by your post. Does the PU have an A5 right now, or is that what you want to put into it. If you swap out the A5 and put in an oversized ceramic, you will have the Duncan Distortion. Buuut, the only place that magnet can be had is the SD Custom Shop, so you have little wait/hassle before you can get it, but as long as your on the phone to them, have them send you some new pole-pieces too, and you should be in businsss. Hope that helps.

Re: Rusted Pole Pieces & Magnet Question

Oh, I meant swapping out the ceramic magnet of an SH-6 for an Alnico 5 instead- in hopes of a warmer sound with more bass thump.

What, therefore, is an SH-6 Distortion without a ceramic magnet and an Alnico magnet in place of that ceramic magnet?

Do you guys know of any other place I can get pole pieces from? I'm not from the U.S., you see.

Appreciate all the help, dude!

Re: Rusted Pole Pieces & Magnet Question

Then you'll have a JB, which is a whole different animal. Stong bass, but can be a bit flubbery, if you're into metal palm-mute type stuff. But that is just my opinoin, there are plenty of people who like the Jb, and also people who use it for metal. Yeah, I would say a JB is a little warmer sounding that a DD, but with such a hot PU, you might not find the warmth your looking for. About the pole pieces, you might have to have them shipped overseas. I'm only saying that as my first thought, cause I don't live overseas.
