Sanity Check on a Warmoth Build

Re: Sanity Check on a Warmoth Build

I think chambered ash will sound very nice especially with a floyd as long as you make sure it's not too light. Neck dive is annoying.

Don't get the demon, it's not like the description and not like the styles you want to play. I'd look at the incoming Perpetual Burn. It looks to be exactly the pickup you're hoping to get.

Re: Sanity Check on a Warmoth Build

I love floyds for one tuning. Retuning isn't easy or fun, unless it's a dive only bridge. Other than that: what's not to love? Get a gotoh floyd by the way. Those units feel and look much better and sound better too. Just, superior in all aspects.

Pickups. Put the screaming demon in the neck, not the bridge. It's such a great neck pickup. Like the jazz but a bit hotter which gives it a bit more of a 'fluid' feel. I'd go with an alternative 8 in the bridge. It's got the easygoing feel of the JB but the tightness of the distortion. Can't comment on the perpetual burn since I haven't tried that one yet.

Re: Sanity Check on a Warmoth Build

I'd skip the chambering if I were you, for the simple reason that a good piece of swamp ash will already be pretty light. If you chamber it you'll wind up with an unbalanced guitar, especially if your neck is on the heavy side.

I have a Warmoth LP that has a chambered mahogany body, and it has a bit of neck dive going on. If the body were ash instead of mahogany, I'm sure it would be even worse.

I'm also not convinced that the "slightly scooped mids" thing people say about ash is real. It hasn't been with any ash-bodied guitar I've encountered (including the one I own). My assessment is that it's a more articulate, "snappy" version of alder.

Another vote for basswood with maple cap. I have that combo in a guitar with a maple neck and ebony fretboard, Custom 5 in bridge and Jazz in the neck. Plays metal really well. As far as Floyds, spend $35-40 on a big brass block upgrade.
