Sat Night Specials vs WLH?

Ive always liked hotter pups. Never been much of a fan of single coils. Tried a Dimarzio PAF Pro (May have been a PAF) once and quickly yanked it cuz it had no cajones.. (sp?)

Anyhow, I have a Les Paul with a WLH set in it and I just love the tone.. And I havent been as pleased with my higher output pup guitars lately. In most of my guitars I run Jazz necks and Im not feeling those any more. And I have several guitars with 59b models in the neck. (about the only 2 neck pups I run)

So, thinking my tastes are a changin... That happened to anyone else??

Anyhow Next... I know I love the WLH set. Can anyone compare the Saturday Night Specials to the WLH?

Im thinking I might should look into some other lower output pickups, but dont think I should go too low.

Other suggestions in the midline? Thanks

I have had the SNS on my radar for some time, and if I had a set they would go in to my Fret Esprit. However I adore the '59/C Hybrid-Jazz combo I have in that guitar, so I guess I'll have to wait til I get a new guitar!

Check out the Nordstrand NVH. To me, they're a pretty good PAF with a little heat. I think I only have the standard bridge, so I'm not sure how much hotter the hot bridge is. Just another option to look at.

SNS are a little 'bark-ier' than WLH. A little more rude, slightly more output. My tastes change over time, too...like in 15 year blocks. You can go more vintage in the neck with a 59 or Alnico Pro II and hotter in the bridge with a 59/Custom Hybrid as well.

I have 59b models in the neck of many of my guits. And I LOVE the 59/custom I have in my white Charvel! Your suggestion did spark a thought . IIRC I really liked a PG I had in the neck of one of the guitars I sold a few years back...

Never heard of those. price is great!

I've only played the SNSb for a short period, but Mincer gave a good description. The A4 gives it a different feel & tone structure than I am used to, being almost exclusively an A2 player, but it's a good and refreshingly different sound.


I also find my tastes changing from almost exclusively a low output PAF type player to liking a hotter bridge. The Custom has really knocked my socks off recently …..an old one wound by MJ in the mid 80's. I've also got a set of WLH's to try. They're installed, but I've been too sick the past few days to even try to play. I can barely even sit up.
