Satch Ibanez models...

Re: Satch Ibanez models...

the only difference (to my knowledge) with the 1000 and 1200 is

1000 - has paf pro neck
1200 - has paf joe neck

Re: Satch Ibanez models...

The body is super comfortable, and so is the neck, it's got some chunk to it, it's not a flat wizard neck. it's just an all around superb guitar, I'd like to get one some day.

Re: Satch Ibanez models...

The JS series are great guitars, I'd love to own one someday.

hmmm, could be.. as it seems the hat is on that floating piece of paper in front of him, or is it on the floor? it looks like it's floating in midair LOL

though, the more i look at it, the more it seems as the whole pic was photoshoped together

*edit* and it is. look at the wolfgangs neck. it's casting a shadow right behind it, like there's a surface a couple of inches behind and satch has no shadow at all, and thats not the only thing, but it's the most obvious one

???? Satch is casting shadows... look behind his ears and his feet... he DOES play other guitars than his Ibanez models. There are pics from the Deep Purple/Thin Lizzy tour when he's up on stage with Morse and they're both playing Steve's EBMM sig axes.

i didnt say he's not playing them, just that the pic is photoshoped. and yea, i saw the shadow behind his ears now. didnt pay much atention to that part of the picture.

Re: Satch Ibanez models...

As far as that Tele-style... he described it in an interview as an "Ibanez Tele-style guitar that I peiced together when I was still in The Squares."

Thats all. I've never heard anything else about it. Apparently he also has a strat-style one as well.

He started getting into hardtails when he was recording The Extremist and he said he liked it becaused chords and single notes "packed more wallop." I for one agree with him. ;)

Ibanez JS1000's, 2000's and 1200's are the best guitars Ibanez makes, IMO. I'd buy one if I had more cash on me but oh well. They sound great, balance well, look sleek and sexy, and are great guitars to play. The necks are WONDERFUL... it's a compund radii that goes from a 9" to a 10" in the upper registers. The neck shape itself is an exact copy (ibanez digitally rendered it) of a '58 Seafoam Strat that joe owns.

NOTHING like a Wolfgang, though. Wolfies have back shapes that are thicker and slightly asymmetrical. The fretboard is flatter as well... a 15" i think. Also the necks are finished very lightly or not at all. I think the Wofie I played had a little tung oil in it but not much else.

I think that the Satriani models started outin the 80's as the Ibanez Saber series, which then split off into the Satriani JS series and the standard Ibanez S series. The new ZR trem on the S-series is a blast BTW.
wasn't it based on the radius? sorry if I'm wrong.

(wasn't the radius the carved top version of the sabre?)
slade

Re: Satch Ibanez models...

it was based on the 540R Radius, a great guitar, if you can find one. those pics onstage with Deep Purple & Steve Morse show him using one of Morse's backup guitars, nothing more.
Many high-profile endorsements forbid the artist to appear in public with another brand guitar- doesn't mean he doesn't record with another brand.

Re: Satch Ibanez models...

^^ This is true bout the endorsements. I've never seen Satch use anything other than Ibanez live, but he mentions using other guitars (Martin, Gibson jazzboxes, Fender CS Strats and vintage teles, and even Danelectros) in the studio all the time.

Re: Satch Ibanez models...

Morse's backup or a magical guitar risen from the middle of a lake, it's still a non-Ibanez used live ;).

Found this quote on Jemsite

Multi Radius Neck explained from Hoshino USA (12/2003)

The multi radius neck refers to the BACK of the neck, not the fingerboard. Typically, a "compound" radius (as I know it) means you have a small radius at the nut and a large radius at the end of the fingerboard, this makes gripping chords in the low register more comfortable and eliminates "choking" in the high register while still allowing low action.

Apparently, our [JS] "multi radius" definition means that the bass and treble side of the back of the neck are not identical, the neck shape is intentionally "lop-sided" in order to replicate the feel of Joe's favorite neck. The radius is actually a fairly consistent 10 inches

Re: Satch Ibanez models...

So it is asymmetrical like the Wolfgangs, just possibly to a different degree.
