Saturday Night Specials in a Sheraton II Pro

Hi guys-

I bought a set of SNS that I never put into my Gibson LP. I just picked up an Epi Sheraton with ProBucker 2 and 3.

Has anyone swapped Probuckers for SNS?

I had a Koa Epi LP and have to say the ProBucker pickups were pretty damn good stock.

I've totally went through my Korean Casino, which wasn't exactly fun, but so worth it through my Twin and Super and Marshall 60w combo.

Anyone have a diagram to wire the SNS into the Sheraton II Pro coil switching?

Regards

What is that pic of? Is it the pickups in your Sheraton?
It's a pic of a box with my Casino wiring.
I traced the features on to clear sheet, and then into a cardboard box to make a drop- in harness.

The point being, putting pickups in a hollow body neatly isn't easy.

yeah, looks like a template for setting up a wiring harness.

i havent done that swap, but i could see that set sounding good in there. not sure what that switching is. the ones ive played had old school, 2v, 2t wiring

Yes-
I used it one time for my Casino, custom made. I used the braided cloth to keep the relative positions stable, and grounded everything.

Casino is quiet and I lucked out with GFS pickups that sound great- I often have requests to use that guitar through my Twin over other rigs.

In any case, before I go through the misery of doing that again, and using brand new SNSpecials, I wanted some input on SNS in a semi hollow vs the Probuckers which aren't bad IMO.

THANKS

Try the guitar for a good while. Spend sometime with a
Screwdriver.
Sounds like you havent really spent time with the guitar yet and are ready to rip into it.
It may sound great as is.
As far as the SNS set dont be anxious to dump it into an axe. If the semi hallow sounds goid as is, sit on the SNS set a project will come along for them.....or sell um snd use the money for something you can use

I bet SNS would sound awesome in a semi hollow. But we need to know how you are going to split the pickups...are there push/pull pots, or do you need a switch?

How hot is the SNS bridge pickup? Might be a concern in a semi-hollow depending on your amp, how you run your gain, and your muting technique. . . semi-hollows already feed back pretty easily at volume with low output pickups.

The Sheraton II PRO cones with switches in the Vol controls.

If I decide to install the SNS I would need a chart comparing Probucker wire assignment to SNS.

Understood, I don't have issues with my Casino and Twin using TS9 and Tumnus surprisingly

Yeah, the SNS isn't so hot it will cause feedback in a semi hollow more than your Probucker, really.
As far as wiring, on the SNS- black is hot, green and bare are ground, and red and white are soldered together and then soldered to the push/pull switch of the respective pot.

Thank you!

I agree with giving the Pro Buckers a chance as my Koa PRO really sounded good as compared to my and buddy's "real" LPs.

In the end, my experience is that unless the stock pickups are really terrible, there are sonic differences under certain circumstances and use cases that make a pickup "better".

My 90s Casino had Samsung(?) pickups stock that were just not good. Amazing that GFS P90s were a game changer- who would have guessed?

I want my Sheraton to have a humbucker voice from clean chord Beatles to hard rock distinct from the Casino.

Thanks for the input

Had a set of SNS in my semi hollow Carvin AE 185 and they worked very well. Pulled them before I put the guitar on the market and am considering dropping them into my SH 60 Carvin which is also a semi hollow body. I really like the SNS in a semi hollow body guitar.

Let us know how this turns out!
I will!

I'm really wondering how the SNS sound with comparisons.

Been playing 50 years, Berklee alum, I'm skeptical about pickups, magic, etc.

My 80 Strat had every pickup hacked into it possible and I landed on an unpopular pickup set that worked for me, with a Belew Kahler.

Regards Guys

Same here. Ill roll amp tubes like crazy. Try voicing mods on amps. Try speakers pedals and will rewire any guitar with subpar or hacked wiring.
But to me pickups are like a commitment. $100+ each then ya gotta rip um out put the new ones in, solder um in, find the sweet spot. Some guitars ya even gotta reset your action cause the bridge has to come off. THEN if you dont like the new ones....ugh I got lucky I was pointed right on my SG...which I liked to begin with. Atleast with the other shit its easily undone and can sell whst ya dont like without the major project.

Belew really knows how to work that thing!
There are probably people here with a lot of experience with the SNS set. I've tried it, and I do like it. But I have to admit I was hesitant because I actively hate the song they are named after.
