Saved one... (Ibanez content)

Having sold off pretty much all my Ibanez RGs years ago (yes, I still have all my Paul Gilbert models), and not really looking for any more...I picked up this not really "abused", but certainly neglected RG3120 recently. After some new parts and a full tune up, she plays like wet glass, and sounds great.

The late '90's, early '00's 3120s really were the best Ibanez guitars that ever came to the US (gray market J Customs excluded), and I would not hesitate to pick up another one.

Well another off the list... on to the next guitar. :D

Yep, the 3120 is becoming something of a classic - Adam Brad on here has one and someone else has a lefty. Your one has that faded denim look as well, others seem to be more vibrant blue.

Wish I didn't dislike Wizard necks, missing out on many nice axes :(. I prefer 1986 RGs, but they're not always easy to come by.

Re: Saved one... (Ibanez content)

The fading combined with the clear turning yellow gives it the worn jeans look. The neck profile is not quite as thin as the '80's Wizards, but still thinner than most.

Like I said, I would buy another in a second.

First time someone's mentioned my guitar on here

I'm a big fan of it, awesome playability. Although I've thought that the tone is slightly thin sometimes and have subsequently been debating a big brass block for a long time....

Mine too needed TLC, hadn't been looked after in a while. The neck was warped and dried out, the pick-up switch had been replaced with a 3-way of eBay quality, trem was blocked and springs were missing etc. Absolutely love it now though, especially considering I got it for the price of an entry level (but non-GIO) model.

Being an Ibanez guy, it's a guitar worth remembering; plus, I used to look at the oldish catalogues and think 'man, a 3120 would be sweet', whilst trying to pretend my 320 was one :P.

Don't you hate it when people treat guitars like they don't know what they have? Consequence of capitalism perhaps.

If they only had fatter necks...

You will not be disappointed! I added the gigantic brass blocks to both of my JS's, what a difference in tone and sustain!

That's the only reason I don't have a ton of old IBZ! If they were comfortable to play, I would have one of everything. I love the Lo Pro bridge too!

Is the 3120 a neck through? AANJ? That looks really sweet!

Re: Saved one... (Ibanez content)

^^ Yeah. The pre-1987 guitars generally had fatter necks - Roadstars have a medium C of sorts which is very nice. But you've got JSs, which have a nice Fendery neck.

The 3120 is AANJ; there has also been the RGT3120 which is a neck through version.

Re: Saved one... (Ibanez content)

I still kick myself in the A** for not picking up the 2 used ones I saw in Guitar Center years ago for $450 a piece.... Those are awesome guitars...

They did come in a dark royal blue and faded over time to what you see there...

They were the only Ibanez in the lineup to have an actual flame maple top that was a little thick- not the veneer they had on all their other models, and came with Dimarzio Tone Zone/ PAF Pro pickups

Re: Saved one... (Ibanez content)

...droooool... Neck-through version of this guitar? Where me get a piece of that?!?

Somewhere on your used guitar shopping haunts - made 2002-03, came in purple and brown. Obviously, the final year had the Edge Pro.

Very, very nice!

I always end up GASing over RGs when I see and hear them. It's just the Floyd which keeps me away. How many RGs did you have prior to selling them all? Any pics?
