Schecter Blackjack SLS C-1 EX Baritone

Hey guys

my first post here! thought it would be appropriate since this guitar uses Seymour Duncan Active blackouts.

So ive only been playing for about a year and i picked up a baritone for playing 6 string lows easier than trying to tune down to B Standard on a regular e standard guitar since i mostly play metal... the low string tension can be a pain in the ass to play really fast. I love this guitar though, it feels great, plays smooth and has great tone. http://www.schecterguitars.com/Products/Guitar/Blackjack-SLS-C-1-EX-Baritone.aspx

The problem i'm having with it is the fact it is too smooth. So much to the fact i cannot get my Peavey 6505 2x12 combo to distort during playback, no matter what settings i use. I had to buy a boss overdrive pedal just to get the guitar to distort at all.

Hopefully some of you guys with your experience on blackouts can let me know if this was intended and i just overlooked a pretty obvious feature that its not supposed to distort, or i'm maybe missing something else completely different. My other guitars are a schecter hellraiser 6 Floyd Rose, hellraiser 6, and a Jeff Loomis 7 Floyd Rose - those all use EMG pickups, and have no issues whatsoever distoring.

hopefully i posted this in the right area!

Thanks so much

Welcome! :D

That's... Pretty weird though. Sounds like an issue with the guitar/pups. Is the wiring correct? Are the batteries fresh? Something's definitely wrong there.

Re: Schecter Blackjack SLS C-1 EX Baritone

Blackouts should start to even distort the clean channel of that amp. I'm thinking the battery is either dead or just not even in the guitar.

Re: Schecter Blackjack SLS C-1 EX Baritone

You know... i bought this thing brand new, and i just assumed it had a battery in it because my Loomis 7 was brand new and has a battery in it.....

but i've never checked.... i'll do that first thing when i get home... hopefully that's not the case... /embarrassing.

Re: Schecter Blackjack SLS C-1 EX Baritone

It's nothing for you to be embarrassed about, it's the company or stores fault if that's the case.

Re: Schecter Blackjack SLS C-1 EX Baritone

Yep, no battery/desoldered battery clip wire/ dead battery/ backwards battery.... Youre describing the exact same thing I encountered when I messed up bypassing an 18v mod on EMGs and clipped the battery across the wrong 2 poles: nice "smooth" but super quiet sound, impossible to get distortion.

That's just unpowered actives for ya.

Re: Schecter Blackjack SLS C-1 EX Baritone

So was it that there is no battery? Or is it something else?

Re: Schecter Blackjack SLS C-1 EX Baritone

Hey guys sorry about the late response... finally tested it, totally was the battery! Man this sounds sooooo much better than the boss overdrive haha. Thanks so much!
