Schecter C-1 Decision Time

Well, it certainly has beena long time since I last posted. Good to see some familiar faces still around though!

I'm stuck between decisions. I've decided my next guitar will be a Schecter C-1.
However, I can't figure out whether or not to get a C-1 Classic, or a C-1 Plus.

C-1 Classic already has a JB and Jazz in the bridge and neck, respectively
Has the vine inlay throughout the whole fretboard, which I really can't decide if I love or dislike..
Beautiful quilted maple top.
Similar with the blue. If it's subdued, I'll probably like it. If it's anywhere near as bright as the pictures show, I don't know if I will..I love both the 3-tone sunburst and the antique amber finishes, but I hate gold hardware. The only one with chrome hardware is the blue. Changing all of the hardware would be a huge pain in the ass, as well as expensive. I'm sure I could live with the gold, but I'd really rather it be chrome..
I don't think the guitar has binding on the body, which I don't mind, but I think binding would look pretty good.
Volume, Tone knob, and a 5-position megaswitch with split options in series and parallel for tonal variety.
$750 price tag.

C-1 plus is shipped with duncan designed pickups, which would have to go almost immediately in favor of actual Duncans. This would mean an extra 200 wingwangs right off the bat. I might go with the JB/Jazz combo, but I might choose something else. I'm not sure. I would be perfectly happy with the JB/Jazz combo, as with the classic, but if I'm changing them out anyway, I'd consider what else to slap in.
Flame maple top, which I really like..but I like quilted more.
Black cherry finish looks great, and has chrome hardware (minus pickups, but those would be replaced with chrome covered pups).
"Vector" inlays, which look good, and are much more suppressed than the vine inlay. Interestingly, almost all of my guitars have cool/abnormal inlays--finishes/colors, too.
Binding on the body.
Vol, Vol, Tone with coil-tap, three-way switch. Coil tap would be cool, but I think I might like the 5-pos megaswitch option in the classic more.
$600 price tag

I would probably be replacing the pots with 500k CTS pots for both guitars (IIRC they're shipped with 350k pots that sound like doodoo)

Hopefully someone has the blue one and can post a picture for me[:D]

Re: Schecter C-1 Decision Time

Furthermore, if I were to go with the classic, could I wire it with a push-pull to coil tap also?

Re: Schecter C-1 Decision Time

I've seen and played all of those guitars, bro. You can't go wrong with any of them. However, I personally found the vine inlay to be way to busy. The tops on the guitars are beautiful as always. Still, I'd be leaning towards the "Plus" if it were me.

Re: Schecter C-1 Decision Time

i'd go with the classic personally. in fact it was my dream guitar for a while there. the blue is deff more subdued. its more like a deep water color.

Re: Schecter C-1 Decision Time

as far as electric guitars are concerned i think you could do better than either of those buuuut if i had to pick one i'd get the 'plus.' The difference in price is about the same as a pair of used humbuckers from eBay and if you sold the Duncan Designed ones you might even come out ahead.

Re: Schecter C-1 Decision Time

I'd go with the Classic.

I hate the inlay but love everything else (including the 2 pots and 5-way) that quilted blue one looks good enough to eat.

And yeah, of course you can add a push/pull, you can even add two (one to split each pickup).
Just bear in mind that it would PERHAPS mess with the 5-ways configuration.
If the 5-way does some splitting of its' own all you have to be careful of is to make the push/pull split THE SAME coil, lest you want that combination of the 5-way position with the pull to be a kill switch :9:

Other than that, it'd work just fine

Re: Schecter C-1 Decision Time

Update: Found a deal on craigslist for a C-1 Plus in black cherry like new, with SKB case for 350 about 2.5 hours away from here. Seller said he'd meet me half-way, so I jumped on it. He backed out of meeting me halfway and seemed kinda sketchy, so I called it off. It's not such a good deal when you factor in a tank of gas, considering gas stations here are running out.

So, I found one on ebay for 400 dollars shipped new with a slight finish-rub blemish by the binding on the neck. Hard to tell unless you're the one playing, and knocking off 1/3 of the price, I jumped on it.

My Pearly Gates bridge and A2P neck, both nickel covered, arrived the other day.
I'll post some pictures when it comes in!

Re: Schecter C-1 Decision Time

i like your decision. Personally, the a2p neck and pg bridge is a combo way more up my alley. Possibly the best duncan bucker combo ive ever used was a a2p neck with 59 bridge. Ive never like the jazz, so many people rave about but i always felt it had a slightly cold, modern edge to it that i never liked.

you are however, missing out on the 5 way switch which is a great feature with 2 buckers.

looking forward to the pics!!

Re: Schecter C-1 Decision Time

Cool man, now just replace the tone (and possibly one of the volumes) with a push/pull for splitting and you got back some more versatility!

Congrats!

You get over the gold with the vintage amber. I own a C-1 Classic in the vintage amber color. There's binding but on the body it's the "unmask" type where the wood is visible. The neck is bound, however, in creme. The C-1 classic is actually walnut/maple ply neck-through with mahogany wings. Still, it's an awesome axe. As for the 5-way switching, that blows the C-1 Plus out of the water, plus it has the Jazz/JB combo, not Duncan Designed. Trust me: you can mod the C-1 Plus, but that will make it permanently your guitar. You will probably lose money selling it modded (I speak from experience with a different guitar).

Honestly, my opinion is get the C-1 Classic. I love mine to death: it's worth every penny. The only thing I had to do with mine when I got it (since they set their guitars up in the states) was to adjust pickup height and it sounded awesome.

Re: Schecter C-1 Decision Time

Another thing to keep in mind.
Classic has a 25.5 scale.
Plus has a 24.75 scale.

So, if you have a preference that may be the deciding factor.

Also, keep an eye out for a used C1 - Exotic (no star inlay, no body binding).
