Schecter Diamond series

darnright

I hear people say that Schecter guitars are pretty good..what about the Diamond series? I have a chance to get one for $150 or so at a local pawn shop. Has 2 HB, no trem, string through body with tune-amatic style brodge. Guitar is plain black in pretty good shape.

Re: Schecter Diamond series

Sounds like a Blackjack model?

Excellent guitars especially for the money.

My fave is the C1 Classic.

For $150 grab it while you can.

Re: Schecter Diamond series

Check if its set or bolt-on neck. If it's set neck it is likely a blackjack, if it's bolt-on it is probably an omen which is made of basswood and IME not nearly as nice a piece of kit.

It is a bolt neck and it does say Omen on it. I had forgotten that. Is it worth $150 or should I let it slide...
thanks guys.

I bought this a few years ago for 200$ without pivkups. It used to have some crappy EMG's in it. I put a set of Duncan Antiquity P90's in her and the plan was to use it for slide, but it sounds so good I decided to use it for some other stuff as well. Great guitar, High quality parts and it plays nice.

It goes for 300 new- not terrible but they're not the best. If you dig it go ahead and pick it up but you can snag one new for 200 if you haggle with the right guy. That said... I'd suggest going c1+ or above with schecter- anything with a set neck will be mahogany as opposed to basswood and sound a lot less dead. 150 isn't a bad price but I'm a little jaded- got my ltd viper for that price used and its mahogany with emgs...

Re: Schecter Diamond series

It could also be the Gryphon, which I believe is exclusive to Guitar Center/MF. Does it only have one screw at the top of the truss rod cover?

Edit: Nevermind... I didn't see the "it says Omen" post. :)

Re: Schecter Diamond series

I haven't tried that one. But the Damien is pretty good. Schecter is usually pretty good for the price

Re: Schecter Diamond series

Is THIS the one you found?
The first Schecter I played ever was an Omen FR Extreme. It basically is the above with a maple top, different pickups (AlNiCo instead of ceramic) and a push/pull.
Too much of an instrument for its' price.

As many mentioned Schecter makes better guitars but if you're up for a little improvements (namely electronics and pickups) then you could end with a pleasant surprise.

On the other hand if you don't have some pus lying in the house or don't intend to do some work on it then maybe another one could be found for perhaps 300$ or so...

It looks just like that one, i didn't check for push/pulls, and I didn'y notice if it said Omen or Omen6.

Re: Schecter Diamond series

Nah, it's the Extreme that had the push/pull, as for the Omen-6, if it had 6 strings then it's the 6, the Omen-7 is the 7-string.

As I said it's a good price, nothing extraordinary but a good deal none the less.
It will be a decent guitar stock but a Schecter truly shines with new electronics (pots/caps/wires etc) and depending on the model, new pickups (the Omen 6 is one of those that could use a pickup swap). In the end for 300$ (probably even less) and perhaps a little work from you (or your luthier) you could have a truly solid axe.

Just check for construction mistakes (stays in tune, dead spots etc), if that's ok then I think you'd be satisfied.

EDIT:I said some models because believe it or not Schecter makes really good pickups.
My guitar is not a Schecter but I have a Schecter pickup at the bridge!

There was a guy that had an upper level Schecter (with Schecter pickups), took it for a pickup change to my luthier and left him the old pickups.
My luthier put it in my guitar (his guitar at the time, I bought it from him) and that was it. It stayed there!
