Schecter synyster custom vs PRS SE torero?

Re: Schecter synyster custom vs PRS SE torero?

Guitar-wise I like the Avenger way more than the Torero and Schecter more than PRS (for that kind of thing).
However this specific Avenger looks like it was thought-out by a 12-year-old, while being massively stoned, and drunk. Yeah, get the picture. Those inlays and that headstock (the stock Avenger headstock is actually pretty darn cool) totally kill it for me.

Plus, the Torero now comes in a really cool Royal Blue that just cuts it way better for me:

Sorry, can't see the contest.
On the other hand, there IS and updated version of the SG Custom, the SG Special which, although still has that butt-ugly headstock at least is more traditionally set (with pretty much all the same specs):

Re: Schecter synyster custom vs PRS SE torero?

I never tried this particular Schecter model, but I have a Hellraiser Tempest and a PRS SE Custom. I really do like both companies, I think they are pretty much the best korean made guitars out there. I tried the Torero and I REALLY loved it, it played nicely and sounded just like it has to with those pickups and floyd. The (super deep black/slick) ebony fretboard with the bindings simply makes me fall in love. It felt a bit like a jackson nice, which are pretty much the best metal genre necks to play. Personnally, I don't like the Avenger shape and look in general and to say like some others, I'm not really a fan of A7X either so I can't really see me getting this guitar. I just don't really like the concept of getting a signature model at all. I can't really help on this schecter model, but you really can't go wrong with the PRS.

Re: Schecter synyster custom vs PRS SE torero?

Yeah I know about the synyster special, I mentioned it earlier. Thats the model I would be getting if I bought one.

Re: Schecter synyster custom vs PRS SE torero?

el oh el everybody knows that it goes A7X instead....

Seriously, though, The PRS is better. PRS guitars are great guitars. And the 1000 series trem is actually made to the same specs as the OFR. The differences are purely cosmetic. Example: The 1000 series comes in black chrome as well, and the backs of the saddles are beveled rather than squared off. I'm pretty sure it was somebody on here who posted that article I read...

Anyway, the PRS looks, and probably plays a lot better than the Custom. I played one in a Guitar Center. It SOUNDED nice, but It was harder to play than my 400 dollar LTD... I'm probably just used to the feel of mine, though. Neither the Flying V nor the Explorer seemed to play 'off,' however...

Re: Schecter synyster custom vs PRS SE torero?

Agreed.. and when you grown up and realize the market that an Ax7 sig model appeals to: you'll regrettably have to sell it.

Not for very much, though, because by then the mainstream will have moved on to something else and no one will have a clue who this synysytyryyyy fellow is.

Re: Schecter synyster custom vs PRS SE torero?

Torero all the way if I had to choose. Also you could save some serious money by considering some of the more affordable (and classier looking) non-signature guitar offerings from schecter like hell-raisers and what not. Artist signatures always seem so cool at first, then the cheesiness sets in and probably followed by buyers remorse. I was obsessed with mark morton dominion a while back, but glad I never got one.

Re: Schecter synyster custom vs PRS SE torero?

But the way I see it, you shouldn't think of who's signature is on the headstock. If it's a well designed instrument then it's well designed period. Like I said, I'm not that much of a fan of the Synyster, but the Mark Morton Dominion is one guitar I could happily play in all sorts of musical situations if it weren't so ugly, regardless of whether I like or don't like LoG (I do, btw).

I mean, look at it. It's a Japanese made chambered Les Paul/Telecaster hybrid that has a great oiled neck, and Duncans wired to coil splits from the box. If the body leaned more towards Tele or Les Paul and didn't look like the blob it is, I'd get one in a heartbeat. Why? Because Mark designed a guitar that would fit everything from jazz to bar band blues to flat out metal.

true enough; but it's not on the headstock bro, it's spattered all over the fingerboard like glittering emo jism

black torero.

Re: Schecter synyster custom vs PRS SE torero?

On the contrary, A7X ain't really metal. They don't really belong to a genre. Also, for those who say they are posers are straight up stupid, all but they're rythym guitarist and bassist are are trained by the best. And IMO the guys of disturbed are the real posers. DD can't solo for crap(tapping excessively), and their singer (yells agressively to sing and it) sucks. For the risk of sounding like a fanboy, I will stop. I have played the older version of that schecter and it out played all the other PRS, Ibanez, and Gibsons guitars they had at the nearest Guitar Center to me.

Then just ****ing buy it already

don't come in here asking for recommendations and then get all pissy with people when they don't tell you what you wanted to hear.

Quoted for truth..

Stick with a classic design, you'll be much happier in the long run.. tho neither one is really classic.. the PRS looks a bit more.. er.. less cheesy.

Really? All of them?

Re: Schecter synyster custom vs PRS SE torero?

Just to be clear, the guy is talking about the special:
synyster%20special.jpg

No fugly inlays (not a huge fan of the Hellraiser cross ones either but they'll do), gloss/matte BLACK body, no stupid inlays on the headstock (which however is the same fugly horned one).

Much better but still not quite the same as this:

However, it's the only Avenger AFAIK that has an Ebony board and an OFR so...

Sorry guys, please forgive me for sounding that way. Part of the reason I have been sub-consciously sticking up for the schecter is because I am afraid I might choose the torero then realise the neck is too weird. How is the neck?

Re: Schecter synyster custom vs PRS SE torero?

Have you never played a Torero?

I'll say I've never played the Schecter you're looking at but I have played a number of others. I do like the Torero more than the Schecters. Your best best is to buy from somewhere with a return policy if you can't find a Torero locally and give it a whirl for a few days. It's a great guitar. I really liked the Schether C1 Classic but I dig the Torero more.

Sorry man but playing BOTH and preferably back-to-back is THE best way to know which one YOU actually like the best.

It's happened to me more than once that I liked a guitar on paper but when I played it I was totally let down or on the other hand, be totally unimpressed about a guitar until I got to play it and then loved everything about it...
