School me on Avatar Cabs

I need a cab for the new Orange Head I bought this weekend. I played through some Orange cabs and liked them. However I have a line on a used Avatar cab in Orange tolex for 1/3 of the price. How are these cabs?? Who here is using them??

Re: School me on Avatar Cabs

I've ordered all my speakers from them, and they are a great company. Ive never played through one of their cabs so i cant comment on tone, but from what Ive read they are high quality.

Re: School me on Avatar Cabs

I've had both their 2X12s and 4X12s and their both great cabs. As a matter of fact, I took some Celestions out of the 4X12 and sold the cab, then put the speakers in a Hughes & Kettner Triamp cab and you know what? The Avatar cab had sounded better! You would figure the top of the line H&K would be better, but Avatar was a better cab.

Re: School me on Avatar Cabs

I have a 2x12 with mixed Eminence speakers, and I love it. It depends on which speakers you go for, which affects the sound and the price. I have a Governor and a Wizard from the Red Coat line, and together, I get a pronounced midrange, which I find to be perfect for leads. The sound and build quality are great in my opinion.

Re: School me on Avatar Cabs

The are great quality cabs and sound as good as they look. Great customer service as well.

+1

I've got 2 Avatar 2x12s and both are great cabs. One is loaded with the V30L Hellatones and the other is loaded with the v30 and H30 combo. I also owned one of his older carpet covered 2x12s a few years ago. All have been great cabs. I'd buy from him again...

Re: School me on Avatar Cabs

I have two bass cabs, a 2x10 and a 2x12, and they are both excellent cabs. I ordered on a Friday, however, and the 2x12 showed up with the screws in the speakers extremely loose. I was able to fix this myself, though I do wish they'd use some kind of a locking attachment for speakers instead of just a wood screw.

After dealing with the attachment problem, I have had nothing but excellent performance out of my Avatars, and the company is great to call and order from.

Re: School me on Avatar Cabs

B bent.....I got a Orange twin channel AD30 head a month ago...There was no way in hell I was going to pay a grand for a 412 or 6 bills for a 212 cab. I got the Speakerless Avatar 212 of ebay for $160 (with shipping) in orange tolex...painted the nickel/chrome corners w/ black SATIN when the cab got here 2 days later, to match the corners on the orange head. Dropped in 2 Hellatones..(the celestions that Avatar breaks in and relabels) one G12h30 and one vintage30 that I already have and ....WOW...this 212 rocks...blows my 412 Marshall away! YOU WILL NOT GO WRONG WITH THEIR CABS! Check out the reveiws....there 212 cab sounds so huge...I opted for the closed back....not to mention dave's killer customer service....Do it man...unless you've got the money to blow jsut for the Orange logo.....I'd put my orange Avatar 212 up against any ORANGE 212....any day of the week.

Re: School me on Avatar Cabs

Great customer service, amazing cabinet for the price, but "for the price" is the key phrase. I prefer them to something like a 1960A, construction wise, but my Rivera and Mesa crush my old Avatar.

Re: School me on Avatar Cabs

they're great

but they don't sound like orange cabs do

only an orange cab sounds like an orange cab

Re: School me on Avatar Cabs

I have two 2x12 cabs and love them both, great bang for the buck and awesome customer service. They blow away the newer Marshall cabs by a mile. I am also a BIG fan of thier Hellatone speakers which are pre-stressed/broken in Celestion Vintage 30's or G12H30's, the latter sounds particularly sweet.
