Screamin' Demon?

I want to put a demon in a mahogany guitar with a rosewood fretboard and maple neck. I was wondering how it would sound. Anyone know? I like my sound to be bright, powerful and clean. Will it be? And how will it sound with a '59 in the neck?

Lots of SD topics lately...:smack:

It is bright, and clean, and articulate, but to me it lacks some lows....It's not much more powerful than the 59 and the 2 would match up fine...Some guys even use the SD in the neck...Most of the SD I've seen actually measure under 10k..

wouldn't a mahogany body make it a little more bassy?
I have always thought of mahogany as more of a mid range tone wood than anything.

I'm not going to have to crank the gain on my amp to 10 to get a good powerful sound, am I?
Yeah, but depending on your definition of "good powerful sound", you may need a gain knob that goes up to at least 11 :)

Seriously man, when I was like 15 or 16, and didn't know crap about pickups or tone (gain on 10=good for me), I got a Demon as my first replacement pickup, and I was EXTREMELY disappointed. It sounded way better, but had less output than the stock pickup.

I've got a Duncan Custom in my other guitar and it sounds great with the gain on my amp set to about 6. But with this guitar i want a different sound so i was thinking about a Demon. I love George Lynch's sound. I was just sort of wondering how it compares to the Custom? i really don't want to change amp settings, but want something different.

If by powerful you mean output....no it's not very powerful. Just keep in mind powerful means different things to different people.

Also keep in mind that Georges earlier stuff was done with a Duncan Distortion I believe and that has about the same relative output as the Custom.

The Demon and Custom are worlds apart, output & tonally speaking. I'd recommend that you buy a used one off The Trading Post, then if you don't like it, you can turn around and sell it for what you have in it. They usually sell pretty quick here. Lots of the guys who aren't total gainiacs (like myself) really dig them.

I honestly think a big reason why I've been unhappy with them is the name. It's so freaking misleading that it's not funny.

Re: Screamin' Demon?

I'm not a gain freak, so i don't need super high output. I really just need something clean with versatility. Something to get me from Deep Purple to Zeppelin to Megadeth and sometimes to Avenged Sevenfold. How versatile is the Demon and is it good for Hard Rock/Metal?

Read my reviews about the Dimarzio Fred that I Put back into 1 of my strats today vs the SD pickup....The Fred is a better sounding pickup in my opinion.

Re: Screamin' Demon?

The Fred sounds cool but i really want to stick with Seymour Duncans for some reason. So, i'm still wondering how versatile the Screamin' Demon is?

Always keep your mind open....It's very cool to want to try the Duncan, but use whatever sounds great and works for you, regardless of just a name! :)

Are you looking for a SD,cause I just pulled one and replaced it with the better sounding Fred?

Re: Screamin' Demon?

I am very open minded. Its just I've been very happy with Seymour Duncans, so why mess with a good thing? And I don't really like buying anything used, I've had a bad experience with used stuff. And can someone please respond to my question on the versatility of the Screamin' Demon.

Gotta agree with you there....I use Duncan, but I also use Dimarzio and CS Fender stuff....It's all good and sorry if you feel I rained a bit on your parade.:laugh2:

I see you're a newbie.....You might want to try the search function for "Scremon Demon"...

Re: Screamin' Demon?

Hey Bro I've been playing Demons for awhile now and have mixed feelings about it. As far as Versitility goes I can get old Sabbath and Zep tunes to Slayer and Pantera from it. But I make the Amp do the work. I currently jam alot of BLS, Down and Corroision of Conformity tunes with it. The beauty of this pup is its open growling tone. Tweaking the Volume knob allows me to go from Sabbath to Slayer.

Here's the catch, I have 2 Demons in 2 SGs. One sounds like God the other like @ss. The only reason for the difference between the 2 that I can figure is 1 of the Demons is at least 10yrs old and sounds great in my SG X. The other is new and in my Gothic SG with an Ebony fret board not a rosewood. And it sounds a little too thin compared to the other.

I think the Ebony board and Demon combo is a little to thin and shrill. Your rig is a Mahogany body, maple neck w/rosewood fretboard. Sould sound good.

Hope that helps...
