Screaming Demon vs JB?

I'm waiting on a pickguard to be delivered so I can drop in a Screamin' Demon into my Strat. If it doesn't work out I'm going to try a Pearly Gate next.

I seem to recall weren't there some Jacksons that came with dual JBs? The JB neck was just a JB bridge with the logo printed on the other bobbin.

Yes, I had a Jackson RR5 that came with JB in both neck and bridge, didn't bother me, lol! It was from about 15-18 years ago, they started using the Jazz neck shortly afterwards, and now possibly Distortion bridge? With Demon neck I'd probably try something like a Custom 5 or a Perpetual Burn in the bridge. I really like a Demon in the neck and it's been a while since I have had one in the bridge..but duals could be cool.

After doing a little research it's my understanding that a A8 will increase the output and make the pickup brighter.

Increases the output but I think it makes it darker. I had that mod in my guitar for couple of hours but not enough to test it deeply, I was trying to make the Demon work but didn't happen even with the A8.

Anyway, it will make it just a bit different then the Demon OP want to use in the neck.

i had a rhoads from the 90s that had a jb neck and distortion bridge. i thought it was a killer combo

Screamin Demon is a great replacement for a JB that you are unhappy with. IMO, for Seymour Duncan pickups they are more similar than others (especially for harmonics) but the Screamin Demon has always responded more smoothly to my ears. To my ears, same "family" and "vibe" while not being as hot—a good combo of searing leads but still smooth.

And it makes for a KILLER neck pickup. Super articulate while being warm, never muddy. I've used it in the neck position in several guitars (honorable mention for the Lil Screamin Demon in the neck and middle positions as well.)

My absolute favorite combo for the Screamin Demon is SD in the bridge paired with a DiMarzio Liquifire in the neck.

Wire one reverse polarity. Then they cancel each other out.
:laugh2:

Don't get me wrong, I actually got 3 JBs, one with A8, all installed in the bridge position and actively played. Especially the one in my Ibanez RG470 with ash body is just magic, has this low mid growl that's atypical for a JB. But then, guess I like that wah tone so there's that.
One day I'll get a beater body, route it for 3 humbuckers and install all 3, all coils wired in parallel, all 3 in parallel then plug it into my 4 daisy chained od pedals. IF that'll happen, I swear I'll post a sample :headbang:

Careful with A8... The Alt8 was the "pickiest" pup I've ever tried... It didn't sound good with my LP Trad but sounded great in my LP Std+.

PGn was the 2nd "pickiest" pup. In the wrong guitar, it sounds like all the bass/lower mids are gone.

Yeah, I don't think the JB is all that bright so much as cutting. I don't think it really has much going on in the highs, honestly. Especially not compared to a 'Demon.

JB Harsh? OK. Can be. But certainly not in the highs.

The JB really has - in the right guitar - the "perfect mids"

It's a great pickup and I'm not surprised it's among the best selling pickups of all time. And I am with Dave Mustaine that the guitar should not be "hugging" all the frequencies. In a band, you have a bass player. Leave the bass/low end to that guy. Focus on the mids.

I'm more of a JB guy because of Arch Enemy, personally. :)

The Screamin Demon is a righteous pickup for the neck position.... so is a Bill Lawrence XL-500 wound below 12k ohms.
