screwed by musicians friend (again)

Ok, a few weeks ago I ordered a Martin acoustic from MF. Sadly, it arrived damaged. There was a big crack in the top, it looks like the UPS guys might have stacked boxes on top pushing the top down and causing a crack along the grain on the top.

Anyways, MF arranged for UPS to come pick up the package, which they did on Jan. 24th. I called MF back and they said they still haven't recieved the return. When I called UPS they say its been delivered, but they have no signature. MF won't send me my replacement until they recieve it, but UPS says they don't have it, so now I'm out $800 and still have no guitar. Nobody will claim responsibility and both parties claim they don't have the guitar. What do I do now?

AARRRGGH!!!!

All you can do now is wait and hope. The other option is to let them charge your credit card again for the replacement, then once you get it file a claim with your credit card company about the first one.

Re: screwed by musicians friend (again)

You need to speak to a manager at Musician's Friend. This is a touchy situation, but you can get through it successfully. Just be calm and let them know that you're willing to work with them to get it resolved. Remember, you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar (i know that's cheesy; but it works)...

Re: screwed by musicians friend (again)

This issue should be fairly easy to resolve, but you're gonna have to go past the frontline customer service people at either MF or UPS (and possiby both). Provide MF with the tracking number so that they can see for themselves that a) you sent it and b) UPS said they dilivered it. Then, they can start sussing out that issue between them. The most likely thing: It was delivered to MF on time but never processed back into stock.

Re: screwed by musicians friend (again)

I think you will be able to get this resolved. First, if you have the tracking number call Muscians Friend and talk to a manager. If that person gives you any problems, ask to speak to their boss. Go all the way up the chain until someone helps you. Get proof of delivery and show it to them. If you talk to a manager over there, they've got to help you. I doubt they will screw you.

Re: screwed by musicians friend (again)

Businesses like Musician's Friend are large enough that it sometimes takes at least 2-3 weeks (or 10-15 business days) just for information to get from one place to another. It just takes time for everyone to update their computers. So, I don't think you're out $800 just yet, but you may have to be patient for awhile. Meanwhile, UPS has a tracking system which you can access if you have the right information and maybe find out where your guitar went after they picked it back up again. 1) Stay on top of the situation, 2) Keep a record of everyone that you spoke with and when, 3) Keep your temper (it's not really their fault), but be firm about what you need to have happen. Good luck.

Re: screwed by musicians friend (again)

All suggestions have been good, but I'll add one more:

Follow-up with UPS. If they delivered without obtaining a signature, they cannot prove that they fulfilled their obligation of delivery. They remain culpable.

It depends whether or not the individual "paid" for a required signature. If you don't pay for it, they can drop it off pretty much drop it on your doorstep right out in the open until you manage to find it there.

Actually, if MF issed a call tag, no sig would be required upon the unit's return.
Also, It costs more not to have a signature required.
