SD alternatives to Gibson pickups

Re: SD alternatives to Gibson pickups

Thank you all for your suggestions, after reading some of the posts I think I wasn't clear, the topic actually says what I was looking for better than the post. What I am really looking for are the alternatives to those pickups. I am looking for better tone & quality which is why I am looking into SD's. The reason I am asking for the SD "alternatives" to those Gibson p'ups is because I am fairly sure they are the starting point for the tone I'd like out of my pups.

Re: SD alternatives to Gibson pickups

The best thing to do would be to tell us your music genres and guitars, and ask for our favorite pairs, like a C8/'59N, which you should have in something. Lots of fans of Brobuckers, PGN's, '59/Custom hybrid, Seth's, etc. We've tried many makes and models, more than just Duncans and Gibsons. If you start with our favorites, you're way ahead of the curve. :cool2:

Re: SD alternatives to Gibson pickups

Here's what I would choose for things that are "similar to but better than gibsons"

better than '57s: Dmz Air Classics do the "very smooth, round" thing if that's what you like. I've never played Seths but they look like they'd also be the ticket.

better than 490R/490T: 59s with A2 magnets.

better than 498T: the JB. I think the 498T sounds like someone neutered a JB. Go with a custom if you want something more PAF-like. I happen to like the JB.

BB1 and 2: Pearly Gates baby!!!

BB Pro set: 59n A4 and a regular 59. The A4 in the neck takes out the boomyness.

BB 2 and 3: Pearly gates neck and a Custom.

The 500T and the dirty fingers are pretty much the same pickup.
which has been said to be somewhere between the custom and distortion in terms of tone.
