SD Antiquities but less expensive

Re: SD Antiquities but less expensive

ok. Have you played Seths in an LP ?
Have you played PG's in an LP ?
What differences did you find?

Re: SD Antiquities but less expensive

Just ordered a set of zebra Pearly Gates for the LP !! I'm pumped ! lol
The Ants will get moved back to the semi hollow body.
Perfect.
Hope the PG's live up to their hype.

Re: SD Antiquities but less expensive

PGs live up to the hype. IME among the best humbuckers to have in a Les Paul for 'the Les Paul' sound (setting aside the detailed trivial/idiosyncratic arguments for the moment). PGs are like a really great sounding, extended range set of 59s. In my experience, the PGs are like a set of 59s with extended top and bottom end. Not louder top and bottom, but a greater top/bottom range, just at the same level. More ballsy and 'hi-fi' compared to 59s. My understanding is the Angus pickups and few other custom types are close relatives of the PG wind. IME you can cover a lot of ground with PGs in a Les Paul.

Cool, let us know how this all turns out!

Re: SD Antiquities but less expensive

I have a set of nickel covered Pearly Gates in one PRS Singlecut and a pair of nickel covered Antiquitys in another.

Spent some time cranking up the volume and rocking out today on both guitars.

The Antiquity is fuller and warmer...less sizzle/treble.

But boy...do both guitars ever sound good!

Re: SD Antiquities but less expensive

Yes indeed I have thought that the PG's were a bit too mid high however the LP is a dark guitar first and foremost. I am running thru a Marshall not a Fender, for example so I don't have that clean/treble thing happening that may be worrisome with the PG's and most of all if the PG's are pretty well spec perfect as the Reverend's
59'er then I'm gonna be one happy camper.I love the tone Billy gets happening with that thang lol .

Re: SD Antiquities but less expensive

And no doubt I'm late to the party but if you guy's haven't heard this demo of the PG guitar which of course comes with the PG's pups then listen to the ZZ tone these guys get happening.
Not that I'm a ZZ fanatic but just that I love that tone!
