SD Black Back Pickups..i need all the infos avaiable!

Re: SD Black Back Pickups..i need all the infos avaiable!

Duncan can't answer as there is a Non Disclosure Agreement on the pickups ...

However, some here have tried them out and probably would be able to help you out soon.

Don't worry about your english, and welcome to the forum!

Re: SD Black Back Pickups..i need all the infos avaiable!

Ed Roman has a very seedy reputation and is considered a con artist by many. I've personally never dealt with him, but I know of several who have and I've never heard anything good. He is known to make very accurate forgeries of guitars and he then tries to pass them off as originals. Also i've heard his customer relation skills leave a lot to be desired. If you want info on the pickups, thats cool, but stay very far away from Ed Roman. :)

Re: SD Black Back Pickups..i need all the infos avaiable!

That does sound extremely shady.... He's talking about how no one else knew about this technology and what not... But since a few people here have apparently tried them.......

Re: SD Black Back Pickups..i need all the infos avaiable!

well more than a few people tend to think that they are just a CC ...... i havent tried them though, but it seems to be an agreement that they are more or less a CC...

Re: SD Black Back Pickups..i need all the infos avaiable!

I had a couple Black Bottom Pearly Gates that I just sold. They were from the 80's, and I bought em from a Duncan Dealer. I don't think mine had anything to do with Ed Roman. I think some of the Duncans from earlier years just came with black bottom plates. The one's I had sounded pretty much like all the other Pearlys I've heard. Maybe just a bit warmer, probably due in part to natural aging.

Re: SD Black Back Pickups..i need all the infos avaiable!

..thanks...
i'm italian,but Ed Roman,for me,smells 'till here... :)

Up :)
If someone have tried this one's...let me know :(

I haven't understood why duncan can't answer me...if this is a Custom Shop, surely i can buy it from them...or not?

Non disclosure means that Seymour Duncan (the business) has pretty much signed a statement not to give out any information about these pickups. So I believe Ed Roman could take legal action against SD if they did release such info.

As far as I know, you can only buy Blackback pickups from Ed Roman

Re: SD Black Back Pickups..i need all the infos avaiable!

8k neck
14k bridge

Sounds like...a 59 and a C-5

Not worth the money, IMO...

Re: SD Black Back Pickups..i need all the infos avaiable!

The two I had were both Bridge. Each measured around 8.5k. I'm pretty sure they were just regular 'Ol Pearlys. I got em sometime in the early 80's??? They still had the stickers on the bottom, a little faded, but I could make out the lettering > PGB They did sound very good, however. :)

Re: SD Black Back Pickups..i need all the infos avaiable!

mrid if u never tried it before then why are you atomatically judging it, and that goes for every body here why the hell is every body making assumptions on a pickup they have never tried. There was one person on this forum(hopefully he'll get to this post) who did use it and he said it sounded nothing like a jazz and a custom custom as so many have claimed it to be, infact he said the bridge was to bright for alder which i cant believe a cc would be.

Re: SD Black Back Pickups..i need all the infos avaiable!

Well, I can only speak for the Black Bottoms that I had. They sounded like what they were,.... Pearlys. I don't know the 1st thing about Ed Roman, never had any dealings with him. I do know the pickups I had were medium output ( 8.5K ), and were very good sounding. :)

Re: SD Black Back Pickups..i need all the infos avaiable!

59paul ... yours are probably Pearly Gates ...

The Blackback pickups were created for Ed Roman ... and are 'hush-hush' ... The name throws people off, I remember a couple of threads were people were getting confused over their old SD's (like your Pearly Gates) which had the Black Baseplate and people had referred to them as Blackbacks.

As far as I know, MRID's used them, and he sold them to another Forumite. And there's another guy with them on here as well.

Re: SD Black Back Pickups..i need all the infos avaiable!

Yeah. I posted on this topic before. Mine were regular Pearlys, no doubt. I have some older Duncan's from the 80's, and some of em have Black bottom plates. I think sometimes folks get these confused with the Ed Roman Pickups. :)

Re: SD Black Back Pickups..i need all the infos avaiable!

A guy i know uses them here read this from the duncan site,

Comments: supposedly ed roman modifies these pick ups. after my purchase, i spoke with an inside source at ed romans & he confessed that the only thing done to this p/u is being dipped in black paint. I can purchase a custom custom at guitar center for 60.00.........

DO NOT BUY THIS PICK UP FROM ED ROMAN!!!! Save your money. not that its a bad pick up, its just a scam. instead buy or make a custom 5 from a custom or custom custom & alnico 5 magnet from a jb.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I give this pickup a: 1 - What a hunk of Junk!

Re: SD Black Back Pickups..i need all the infos avaiable!

Grazie invader :D

(rifaccio pure agli americani :D!)

Guys,is "Invader pickups has got too much gain, and that compromise the sound" true?

Cmq io ho la fissa del duncan custom anche se non l'ho mai provato :o

PS
Peccato che abbia l'inglese in cancrena,mi sarei gestito un po' meglio
