SD bridge humbucker close to Doug Aldrich?

Re: SD bridge humbucker close to Doug Aldrich?

is the Sh-5 a pretty versatile? will it cover hard/classic rock and blues? or is it mainly a metal pickup?

I've never used a Dimebucker so I can't compare it to the Custom. I generally don't care for ceramic magnet pickups but I like the Custom.
Na, i'm saying does the custom have a mid scooped sound like the C5?

I think it's a pretty versatile pickup. After reading what you are looking for I would highly recommend it. Not as highly as the Suhr Aldrich but I still have two guitars with Duncan Customs and I love the tone of each.

I would not say the Custom has a mid scoop or is particularly "modern" sounding inherently. I've gotten it to sound very modern with the right amp settings but I've also gotten some vintage rock tones as well depending the rest of the gear used.

can you name any hard/classic rock (not metal) players the use the custom? they name mostly metal players on the custom's description page.

Before Doug went to Shur, he used the Custom Custom in his guitars. That's what you are hearing on the 2005 Whitesnake DVD. Hope this helps.

If you are trying to tame an overly bright amp, i.e. Marshall, then the CC is a great thing in a Les Paul. I had a CC in my Les Paul Classic for a few years. I really enjoyed it in the guitar. It was very fat and creamy. My taste in tone changed for that guitar, and I found that the P-Rails in series was the "tone in my head." I also really like the Screamin' Demon in a Les Paul. But these days I want something with more top end "sting" than the CC can do.

See like i said before, i like the A2P's i have in there right now, but i want a little more power from the bridge. Is there a pickup that has the same tonal characteristics as the A2Pro buthas a little more output and would be good in a LP?

It sounds like the Custom Custom is worth trying out at this point.

I love the CC and Custom but it depends on which guitar they are in. Bright or thin guitar - Custom Custom. Dark or muddy guitar - Custom. The CC was hands down my favorite pickup for my LPs before I got the Aldrich. I am a big fan of that aggressive Les Paul into Marshall tone so I think I have an idea of what you are looking for.

The biggest factor for me when selecting pickups is the mid voicing and the output. The mid voicing on the CC and Custom are great to me. No upper mid spikes that I can't dial out like on a JB or Rio Grande BBQ. I can dial out any harshness the Custom may create and I can dial in any lows the CC may lack. I like something that hits pretty hard and can be backed down. Not EMG hot, but enough to push a preamp tube.

I think you are on the right track with either of these two pickups but like I said, you should play your guitar unplugged for a while and see if you can determine its basic characteristic. My gut feeling is that if you like the AP2 the CC may be a better switch for you. It's always been one of my favorites and it is the pickup that got me into the Duncan camp.

ya im really feeling that the CC may be the best choice for me. The only problem is that im not playing through a 100 watt crancked marshall. haha

im playing through a Peavey VK 112 and it does not have that upper mid spike that the marshalls have. It's more focused on the lower mids. I know the CC is what I need, but im just afraid that if I put it into my LP, it wont mix with my amp

Does Duncan still have some kind of satisfaction return policy?

Dimarzio D activator. It has tons of upper mid crunch. Or Lace drop n gain. They are both the closest to the Suhr I can think of.
