SD Five-Two

fuzzed out

I have an Japanese Standard Strat with Fender Vintage Noiseless Pickups. They sound decent, but I think that they could be better. I know that they can be difficult until you find the right sweet spot with their height. I think that I found the sweet spot, but I am just not amazed. My Highway One's pickups have more kick and omph. I was considering replacing the Noisless with SD Five-Twos. Anyone have those? I already have another strat with Alnico IIs in them and they rock, but this time I want something with a little more meat.

OK, let me be a little more clear. The Noiseless sound good, but a too smooth. I want more bit and bottom end. Are the Five-Twos a good match?

Re: SD Five-Two

I have a set of 5/2's in a '76 Strat. They have a 'bell like' bottom end, much like a vintage Strat pickup, which would make sense as the bass polepieces are A5. The G-B-E polepices are A2, and they provide a smoother, less bright, tone on the unwound strings. So, you get the treble smoothness of the A2 with the tighter bottom end of the A5.
