SD Hot Rodded pup set

Hey ! John the newbie here with another newbie question. I just bought SD Hot Rodded HB set and wondering which pots to use. Most of the Humbucker diagrams show 500K pots. Should I go with the 500's or with 250'S ? The pups are going into a mahogany Tele with a quilted Maple top. Please help. Thank you.

Newbie John

Re: SD Hot Rodded pup set

Use the 500k pots. You might try a .022 cap instead of the .047 thats listed.

Re: SD Hot Rodded pup set

id go 500k for sure, 0.47 caps AT LEAST, they are pretty bright, not enough to move to 250k pots but enough that you will want to roll of some tone quite often, so get high value caps

i just put them in my agile friday, soooo nice... first time ive ever gotten sweet feedback and harmonics through a pod at reasonable volumes. really rich in overtones and sustain forrever

Re: SD Hot Rodded pup set

Welcome Newbie John!! yeah, def 500k pots . caps can be .022 or .047. The .022 will give you more high end. Im guessing with a mahog body, that would be ok.. If the guitar is bright and if that maple cap is thick, then maybe .047..

let us know how it turns out!

Re: SD Hot Rodded pup set

Seymour Duncan uses 250K with his. I just thought I'd throw that out there.

Re: SD Hot Rodded pup set

on my JB it wanted to be at a certain height to get that wonderful sound

anywhere else it just ...... well aint the JB experience

I think there is a thread on suggested pickup heights

Re: SD Hot Rodded pup set

If you want bite and growl, 500K
If you wanted it a bit smoother and darker, 250K

...if you want it to really work its magic...a single 500K volume!...then adjust amp volume to inappropriate levels and enjoy.

Re: SD Hot Rodded pup set

I have the same set in my Les Paul it sounds good with 500k pots (550k in my guitar) but a bit bright, I put some 750k resistors across the volume pots to get them down to around 300k and the guitar pups sound so good like that much warmer and thicker sounding.

Try the 500k and see if you like that if not it's easy to add the resistor to knock the pot value down rather than change the pot out!

j, i thought a 470K resister would take it down to 250k or 300k?

750k is right, 470k will get you down to roughly 250k

1/550k + 1/750k = 317k

I actually clipped the resistors last night at band practice there were some tunes I felt the guitar was too warm and wanted that edge back!
