SD "Mortal Coil" 3-Voice Active Humbuckers....Say What?!

I see not many have replied to your question. You can absolutely bend on an Evertune. The bridge has 2 zones, one where it just holds the pitch and the other where it holds it kinda but allows you to bend. I HATE the Evertune because it sounds like shit. That's the benefit of Arium of Aristides: allows me to compare things very objectively. And, I HATE the Evertune.
I have heard ppl say it sounds bad. Is it like a floyd without a tone block? (I imagine its plinky and lacks sustain?)

I've heard it sounds bad too. The guy from Sylosis says he got a custom ESP with one equiped, and it's great for live use, but in the studio, it just doesn´t sound as good as his Floyds or Tune-O's.

yes. it's plinky and ploinky and it robs sustain, oompf, power. i HATE the thing.

For what it's worth, I LOVE the OFR. I have compared it against the hipshot fixed bridge and hipshot trem, and I love the tone of the OFR and honestly, I prefer it with a long skinny block, as long as it can, instead of the big brass block. We had a guitar in the factory with an OFR and was magic. Then, the trem was swapped for a solid titanium trem. YES. Solid titanium. And the tone sucked. Horribly. Everything was bad. I hated it.

Solid carbon steel is a time-proven material since right after the Bronze Age. Never underestimate its usefulness.

I see that it made it to standard production.

MortalCoil Pickup

I wonder if the voice 3, (single-coil mode), will give a similar jangle and chime as the notch positions of a Strat? I know that sound is strongly dependent on how they interact with each other, and the active outputs would isolate them.

Yes, I use the original block. The longer ones sound better. Thick brass block sucks.

Look... I resent Gen AI as much as anybody, but I don't see any compelling reason to believe this ad copy wasn't written by a person. First off, there are no em dashes lol.

But also, none of the buzzwords are really red flags. If you think for a sec, this is a dunk specifically on Fluence.

Fluence "coils": layered PCBs
MC: actual copper wound coils

Better battery life, a common complaint about Fluence

The rest about the op amps and pick attack are just marketing buzzwords and such but nothing that wouldn't have been used 5 years ago.

Oof...it seems you've got a lot to learn about AI if that's your impression!

Marketing guys are all over AI and I'm not bashing its use at all, I use it a TON, but even I could give Gemini or ChatGPT some core details about my product along with a spec sheet, ask it to emphasize how it improves performance over the competition, and generate something just like this in a few minutes.

I think it's more accurate to say: "I don't see any compelling reason to believe this (AI-generated) ad copy wasn't edited by a person"

To my point, here's the score Originality.ai gave the description on the product page:

Well, it is described as a Stratty sound, but honestly, it is still pretty heavy. It is thinner and brighter than the other 2 voices. But all 3 voices seem to be designed for a whole lot of distortion.

Oh interesting. Did you try it at NAMM? If so, in all the noise around you, could you tell anything about hum rejection in the neck split?

I did, but it was set with a ton of distortion in a really noisy area. NAMM isn't great for trying things that need subtlety. But I didn't hear hum when it was using the split sound. Again, I'd need to try it in a quiet room.

Cool. Thanks for responding. Since these are active, I imagine you can do things with filters to mitigate 60 cycle hum, so I'm curious to try one in the wild. I'll see if one of these new ESP models ends up in a store near me at some point.

It sounds kind of similar to the Blackouts Strat pickup, which I have. It's far less bright than a Strat pickup, but I do like it.

At $170 each, that's definitely a hefty price tag. Basically "Custom Shop" prices, but the 3-voice thing is really cool.

I also think they're doing it right by securing a big mfr endorsement out the gate! Immediately gets them in the hands of players who might not opt to upgrade to them otherwise.
