SD P/U SUGGESTION...

Happy holidays all... I have a guitar with room for a HB in the bridge, and I want to know what HB, when split, would give me a fab SC sound,,, & which coil would be best the highlight, the N or S?? Nothing terribly hot full out, but I'm more after a dynamite SC sound,,, probably using the inner coil so I'm not overly bright,,, more like a #2 pos. sound, which I fully is tough with just half a bucker.... A non-SD would be acceptable but I'm trying to be respectful...

For better in-between sounds and coil split tone i frequently prefer hotter wound humbuckers like JB or Tone Zone or Custom (especially custom 5).

It's hard to go wrong with an Invader. If you don't want hot, wire it in parallel. It's sweet in parallel. You may not even need to split it, in that mode. But you can.

Invader works good in parallel or split.
Custom5 works good series, parallel, split.
Even some lower output pups can sound good split (or parallel).
None will sound like a single coil...WAY different beast...but some can sound reasonably good if you're willing to accept the compromises.

A Stag Mag sounds like a single coil when split, although in series, it is a little thicker than a standard humbucker.

IME Any Custom variant, StagMag or Black Winter all sound very Fendery when split to slug (well on the StagMag, the one that is equivalent to the slug.)

I've got a couple Stag Mags in guitars. Sounds fabulous split...very single coil (because it is). Sounds terrific in parallel. When I want a real heavy/full/powerful sound (which admittedly is rare) I use it in series.

cool,, I have no known intention of going series:angryfire, and it's single coil split sound will serve more importantly than it's parallel mode... Again, which coil might lend a sweeter sound? Me thinks the inner coil.... I just wish it had a flat stagger w/o needing to call the Custom Shop..... What would a close #2 choice be, with slugs, adjustable polepieces and a pleasing SC sound? are you mixing this pup with others in the guitar or is it the only pup? youll never get a notch position sound with just one coil. if you want the best single coil sound, then the stagmag is your best bet cause split, it is a single coil. if you want the traditional humbucker stud/screw look but a good single coil sound then the jb is a good option. if you want a less bright sound, then the inner coil is a safe bet

Bingo!! Being that it's a wonderful Schecter Sustainer, it's essentially a single pup gtr, as the Sustainer acts alone, & I want a bridge pup with the best HB & SC versatility......

Also look at the P-Rails with Triple Shots. You get a lot of great tones out of those.

All my Custom variants split like a Fender single and almost quack on their own. StagMag does the same, just a bit spongier on the low end with the A2 poles. StagMag and Custom Custom to my ears are very close neighbors, CC just has a touch more tightness and top end. I had both in my Jackson at different times and with V/T wired like a Triple Shot, series coil was like a sweet mid-peak 80s rock pickup, split to coil near the bridge was like a punk P-90 single coil sound, split to the coil toward the neck was a Fender single sound, almost Sultans of Swing / Lay Down Sally kind of Fender single sound, and parallel coils was like a Telecaster bridge sound (in my Jackson). Very freakin' useful from just one pickup.

For flat pole StagMag, I'd ask the Custom Shop for the original "The Mag" which was flat radius A5 poles, which should be tighter and brighter.
