SD Pearly Gates "stock" polepiece heights?

when I got my PG bridge pickup, all the polepieces were adjusted to different levels....I assumed someone had been messing around with it, so I adjusted them all flat with the cover



but now I'm wondering if the pups come from SD pre-adjusted like that?

and if so, how are they adjusted, as I'd like to try it out as it was originally?

I never actually tried it first

I don't think there is any "stock" way to adjust polepiece ht. The way I do it is to set the two E string polepieces even with the top of the cover or bobbin if the pickup is uncovered. Then I adjust the middle 4 polepieces in an arch that matches the arch of the fingerboard. Then I hold the strings down at the highest fet and adjust the whole pickup 1/16" to 1/8" away from the underside of the strings. Then I play it for a while and if I notice the B string or G string being to loud I'll back that polepiece a little further away. Sometimes I do...sometimes I don't. Just do it by ear. Lew

funny, some of the poles were quite recessed ( 1/8"), and others were raised too


I guess they didn't come that way from the factory after all
