SD Pickup Booster - Awesome

I made a trade with a guy on craig's list yesterday for one of these Pickup Boosters - all I can say is that it is an amazing contraption. It's hard to explain what it does precisely but with my Stratocaster and Telecaster it somehow enriches the sound of the guitar without creating any unwanted side effects. The other thing I found is that if I crank it up all the way I can overdrive the preamp tube in my amp and get a very warm and rich overdriven tone that doesn't sound like fuzz buzz. This is the best pedal I have ever owned.

Awesome pedals are awesome.

bid PRN.

Just thought I'd play along.

Maybe I'll add that to the list of pedals to get & try. Have you tried it with a HB guitar yet?

Very few discount new Duncan pedals on the bay….

The joy of a clean boost. I have a Keeley Katana that does about the same thing. Love it. Your tone, just louder.

But it creates more than just my tone. It makes it fuller, richer and boosts it at the same time. The variable boost and two resonance selections provides a wide variety of enhancements. I truly dig this little box.

I've wanted one since forever. I know I'd love it.

I use a Zvex Super Duper 2-in-1 for this kind of thing but it's a bit too wild and loose sometimes. I think the PB would be a good complement.

Tried out again this A.M. with my Les Paul. I don't think the pedal was really designed with humbuckers as a priority as it really does not have anywhere near as significant effect with the humbuckers.

Re: SD Pickup Booster - Awesome

I have the first version and love it!

I use it with both HB and SC guitars.
As mentioned, it is a great clean boost, adding fullness until the guitar is up to about seven on the volume control and just coaxes a tube amp into the edge of clean, clear chaos when the guitar volume is full up.
I use it before a distortion pedal for either/or/both.

I play rock, up to early metal and my primary amp is a Marshall Studio 15.

Re: SD Pickup Booster - Awesome

The Pickup Booster is a wonderful pedal. Not many (any) other clean boosts do what the resonance switches do- it really can make a Strat or Tele usable in a metal band, or adding a humbucker flavor to different parts of a song.

Re: SD Pickup Booster - Awesome

Mine has been a mainstay on my board for ages. I use it set quite low to hit the front end a bit harder for leads and some rhythms. Whilst I do wonder whether I'd would prefer a TC Spark with its EQ options, or maybe just an EQ pedal instead, the pickup booster sounds awesome so I haven't bothered finding out!

Re: SD Pickup Booster - Awesome

I had two of the orginals.

Loved it with my strats as far as the p90/humbucker esque sounds, but I didn't like the boost function..very noisy and more coloration than I liked. Kinda dull sounding.

Both my teles hated the pup booster.

I'd buy another if I ever get another strat with low output singles, again.
