SD pickup for P-Bass

Re: SD pickup for P-Bass

Guitarists do the same thing JB's, and expect them to sound great for every genre in every wood.

Agreed. I've said it before the JB is not the be all end all of SD pickups. There's one certain member who will suggest that pickup for anything. I even saw him suggest the JB after someone had said they didn't enjoy the JB that they had in their guitar currently.

Steve Harris I'm guessing.

Back to the point of the thread, I agree with Moody. The Steve Harris is a great pickup that as long as you don't look at the name on the box it's perfect for any number of applications. Steve is know for playing really vintage stuff. The only reason his bass sound is so trebly is because he boosts the mids and trebles on his amp and pretty much drops all the other frequencies. You'll be hard pressed to get a bad sound out of it. My uncle just put it into his '80 P-bass and loves it.

Re: SD pickup for P-Bass

I really need to test the Steve Harris model.

It might actually just be what the doctor ordered if it captures the imagination of first-time Seymour Duncan bassists.

Re: SD pickup for P-Bass

I don't have much knowledge around bass guitar pickups. I've been a Strat guy for about 35 years and love SD pickups in my Strat.

My son just purchased a new MIM Fender Precision. He is interested in upgrading the pickup and electronics. Where should I begin?

I guess I should add that we play mostly English/Texas blues, southern rock and the occasional country. He's playing through a Peavey TNT 115.

All ACTIVE bass seymours are orgasmic

It defies logic but theyve been superb at it, somehow largely unnoticed, since the 80s...far better than both their passkves AND the active competition

PS active pup passive eq is the way to go.... Or the vintage 3-onboard-minitoggle-boosts pup. Parametric active eqs are overrated 15 dollar pedals crammed under your pickguard at 10x the price
