Re: SD pot vs. YJM pot?
Both pots have the same taper. Both are equally volume-swell friendly. Seymour does volume swells all the time and as it turns out, the pots in his original Tele-Gib are the old blue can Bourns.
To me, I can't disconnect the lube tension from the volume swell equation. If a pot is too stiff, I don't care about the taper spec, it's not fun to do volume swells, and I can't do them fast enough without a reduction of enjoyment. While too loose is never really a problem for me, on a guitar with a big heavy metal dome knob, the YJM pot can really flop around. In fact, if you whip the metal knob on all the way to "10" really fast, the YJM pot can actually recoil and bounce back to "9". Not a problem with plastic knobs, also not a problem for me because I just ride the knob with my pinky a lot anyway.
