SD To Launch Whole Lotta Hubucker Worldwide

Re: SD To Launch Whole Lotta Hubucker Worldwide

Sounds like exactly what I would want to change about the current 59s. Nice. I think I am gonna have to try a set of these in my 335.

Don't think you'll be disappointed - I'll have to try and record a few bars and embarrass myself a little.

I want more info, videos or soundclips of these pickups!
Are they four-conductors? In which colors are they going to be on sale (Bobbins & Covers)?
Which is the expected retail sale price?

Re: SD To Launch Whole Lotta Hubucker Worldwide

Should be shipping tomorrow most likely so expect them to start showing up online and at local stores by beginning of next week.

Here's the video:

8.7k in the bridge, 8.2k in the neck, short legs, calibrated sand-cast Alnico V magnets with a unique winding pitch.

It comes in 4-con in case you want to do some fancy wiring with push-pulls like "JP" ;)

Nickel, Gold, Zebra, Reverse Zebra, black uncovered. I haven't heard a thing about different bobbin colors but will check for you.

Re: SD To Launch Whole Lotta Hubucker Worldwide

These sound much fuller than 59s. Very nice.

Any word on $?

Re: SD To Launch Whole Lotta Hubucker Worldwide

I *believe* the street price was $94.95 individually and $189.95 for the set. Last I heard it was black, white, zebra, reverse zebra with gold or nickel covers.

@#!%@!#$%@% Double cream would been Bleeping fab. %#%#@^@##$@^ Sorry to open that ole can o worms, but this one woulda REALLY worked for me in dc..

I have a lester Im needing pups for, ( Pearlies in my other) cant wait for the reviews of this set. I was thinking about a Bonamassa set, but I worry those would be too low output for me

This is a great set, I just installed a pair in my Les Paul Traditional last week and it has made a huge difference to the stock pickups. To now get these at standard production prices rather than going through the custom shop make them more than worthwhile. Although I am happy that I got to deal with MJ and having her wind me a set of these. :)

Can you say how they compare/differ from any other popular Duncan like 59s or pearly gates?

Re: SD To Launch Whole Lotta Hubucker Worldwide

Darn. Now I shall have to buy another Les Paul. :(

Re: SD To Launch Whole Lotta Hubucker Worldwide

Well if the video did say the artist was "JP", it could also be talking about angus, with a "whole lotta Rosie."

Re: SD To Launch Whole Lotta Hubucker Worldwide

I feel obliged to compare the bridge with a Brobucker and a hot (~8.75K) ant bridge with an a5 mag. Can't help it!

:banghead:

B :)

Re: SD To Launch Whole Lotta Hubucker Worldwide

That Neck pup sounds wonderful. Wonder how it would compare to a PG neck?

Re: SD To Launch Whole Lotta Hubucker Worldwide

I have to confess that I was more excited reading the initial definition of this set than watching this video. I like the tone overall, but this "vintage with a modern touch" thing always got me wondering if the set will be THAT great...

Re: SD To Launch Whole Lotta Hubucker Worldwide

Honestly I don't like it from the video... too middy and nasal...

Re: SD To Launch Whole Lotta Hubucker Worldwide

Well the modern bit is the short legs, and 4 conductor wire.

So, similar to PG construction wise.

I just watched the demo again on my big screen. Very impressive. IDK if its the roughcast mags or what, but these sound much more like actual old Gibson PAFs, and Pat#s I have played than 59s do.

Thanks Scott! You definitely got ''all the bases covered'' :)
I'm really looking forward to playing those pickups. I'm a fan of the Custom/59n, Slash Alnico II Pro's sets, and JP's tone!
I like to coil/split a lot with my Custom/59n guitar (my main & favorite guitar*)
I imagine these pickups would get me even closer to those vintage, but a little hot sound I'm seeking these days.

Thanks for all the info! Please let me know if they're going to be available in other bobbin colors, and the humbucker set price!
