Yeah, from what I heard, it was just a really nice MJ wound JB. I'd like to have one!
True, he did use a JB back in the days. However, there were one week on the SD webpage it was mentioned that he was working on making a custom humbucker. I'm with the rest of you, if it ever sees the light of day, it will be when his siggie guitars are released.
If it will be like a JB, but with the best of all of Warrens JBs (anyone else thinking JB Antiquity :laugh2, I will certainly get one. Warren is on my top 5 list of guitarists.
I read on the JCF forum that the old JB's in his original Charvels aged over time and with the weakened magnet sounded closer to a Custom 5. So they were working to duplicate this tone. SD then gave Warren a bunch of JB's with different variations- slightly different winds, different strength magnets, to try out..nothing else was heard. The different in tone could just be the aged wood on the guitars.
However, EVERYTHING regarding DeMartini has seemed to be placed on indefinite hold. His signature Charvels were supposed to ship long ago and never did... they're not even on the DCGL site anymore to order... I saw pics of the painted bodies at the Jackson/Charvel factory, but nothing happened...could be that the endorsement deal went sour, or Performance guitars threatened to sue since they already had an endorsement deal with DeMartini for the same guitars
I've been hanging on to this....

....and a CS '78; waiting to hear what he goes with :dunno:
Can ya' just FEEL the 80s![]()
I'd actually throw the '78 in there regardless of the exact pup warren used. '78's + Charvels = a thumbs up from the guitar gods.
