SDUG ULTIMATE AXE - Category 7; Pawn Shop Prize!

Re: SDUG ULTIMATE AXE - Category 7; Pawn Shop Prize!

Ace, I know you were away for a few days and may still be catching up on reading post replies. In the Pointy replies, it looks likes there is a clear need to add a new category for Super Strats. Can you speak to this? Thanks!

There indeed will be a Superstrat category. Last ytime was EPIC. I'll send the top 10 link to you.

Does an ebay body and a pawn shop neck count?

I will allow the eBAy entry with the following caveats:
1. Must have been purchased as a whole unit. No parts casters.
2. Must have been an Auction

Okay, ebay counts?

Excellent.

So, it's the week before my birthday, and I've been following this guitar on ebay. But I forget to bid on it, and the auction ends.

So, I email the seller, and ask if they're going to put it back up for auction, as I'd meant to bid, but just lost track of it. They don't answer me, but I notice it's back up.

For $1. That's Friday, I think.

Monday's a holiday (and my birthday, by happenstance). Saturday, I'd bought a Gretsch to celebrate (with my loverly wife's permission).

Tuesday morning, before heading into work, I check in on ebay. And the guitar's still there.

For $11. And the auction ends in 5 or 6 hours.

I know it's worth more than that. But, I also know that my loverly wife will skin me alive if I buy another guitar without checking with her first.

So I put in a lowball bid. $75.

5 -6 hours later, I receive notification that I've won. $71 and someodd cents. Plus $40 for shipping.

So I got this:

For $111 and someodd cents.

The pictures don't really do it justice - there's some subtle flame going on in the top.

But it *is* a factory second. And you can't tell if you're more than 5 feet away from it.

P.S. The stock pickups in it had no balls, so I put in the EMG HZs I got from someone on here in trade.

Drat. I have one my wife bought me on eBay that was an auction but she bought it with the BIN option. Oh well.

Re: SDUG ULTIMATE AXE - Category 7; Pawn Shop Prize!

Where oh Where are the pawn shop prizes???

Re: SDUG ULTIMATE AXE - Category 7; Pawn Shop Prize!

Does Music-Go-Round count as a pawn shop? The real ones are illegal in my state.

Re: SDUG ULTIMATE AXE - Category 7; Pawn Shop Prize!

Is that ALL the guitars ever bought from a pawnshop on the board? Come on guys.

What state are pawnshops illegal? Weird. I dig M-G-R. I have a couple guitars bought from them.

Re: SDUG ULTIMATE AXE - Category 7; Pawn Shop Prize!

1986 Gibson Les Paul Custom, factory second, that I bought around 1990 for $400. It came Alpine White, until I discovered this flame top was underneath that I refinished.

While technically not pawn shop (I bought it through a newspaper listing, the family really had no idea of the value of what they were selling, I suspect they were selling stolen goods), at that time I found 70s Les Paul Customs regularly for $600 in the pawn shops because everyone abandoned their Gibsons for Ibanez and Kramers

I live in Wisconsin, you can't have a pawnshop here. I have a sweet ESP M-II that I rescued and repaired from a MGR in Milwaukee. I've got about $500 into it and probably 20 hours of work but it rips like hell now. Particularly after I added racing stripes with Scotchbrite reflective tape. I even managed to keep the original Synclair trem in it and got it working again, which wasn't easy.

Re: SDUG ULTIMATE AXE - Category 7; Pawn Shop Prize!

Got a BUNCH of true PAWNSHOP finds I could post but my all time favorite is this one.
Bought this 2007 Royal Blue W/ Pau Birds and a Brazilian board PRS custom 24 in absolutely mint condition in the hard-shell with all the case candy and extras from Lee's Pawn Shop in Center Point Alabama for $800 OTD. This one is now my #1 gigging guitar and would be a $2800 guitar easily on the open market today.
It hung on the wall in that shop for 3 weeks priced at $899. I was broke at the time so I called a buddy of mine with a shop that had helped me out a couple times and told him to go pick it up. He didn't and 3 weeks later when I went back and it was still hanging on the wall I couldn't stand it anymore and dropped a $100 bill on it to hold (know the shop owner well) then sold one of my other guitars to someone here on this board to pay it off.
And yes I do still own her + have the receipt from LEES PAWN to prove it all!

Yeah I would second that evilbay and true music stores might be stretching it. CL and Goodwill type stores or yardsale type find might fit I would think.

AGREED!
Best Ebay finds need to have their own poll!
Got a few of those also.
