SDUG ULTIMATE AXE - Category 7; Pawn Shop Prize!

Re: SDUG ULTIMATE AXE - Category 7; Pawn Shop Prize!

I'm fine with moving my Spector to an eBay UG thread... The hard part will be deciding if that's the best one I can offer. ;)

Bite me - I'll accept an EBAY win - if it was an auction. The spirit of this contest is "Found it through a non-traditional source and it was a WIN!"

Why just pawn shops. Swap meets, flea markets, junk shops ect?

Shoot a nice clean focused shot after rewire on that one.

PAWNSHOP

I have several pawnshop guitars, as well as a bunch more ebay and CL ones. But I'll go with my most recent pawnshop one. It was a decent deal but not great, so I won't even get into specifics about price. It does have a nice story behind it though.

About a year and a half ago, a friend I first "met" in another online guitar forum had, by coincidence, moved up to my town from downstate. He was going through some financial difficulties and his favorite guitar, and first and only Les Paul, had to go to pay bills. I wanted to buy it from him, so he might re-buy later, or at least know where it was, but I was skint from medical bills from my own post throat cancer recovery. He took it to a pawn, and I tried to raise the dosh before it sold, but missed it by a few days.

By chance, it showed back up at the same pawn a few months ago. I've known the pawnbroker for a long time, and Tom knew I had wanted to buy it the last time it had come through his shop. He knocked a bit off the tag for me this time.

Even though I had just bought a very similar brand new LP Special with proper P90s a month prior, I'm in a new job this year making a bit more and could actually afford this one, even though under any other circumstances I wouldn't buy a second LP Special. This one has P100s rather than proper P90s, which under other circumstances I'd probably switch out, but I'll leave it stock for my bud. Frankly, I don't know if or when he'll be able to buy it back, and unfortuately I'm not doing well enough to simply give it back to him.

But at least for now, and as long as it takes, it's a fun guitar for me, and he knows where to find it.

That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it.

EBAY

I bought most of my guitars off eBay or Craigslist. Got one I bought from the old Want Ad Press her in Jersey back in 1982 (my namesake axe), but for this category I think I'll enter my 1980 wine red Les Paul standard that was modded with a Floyd Rose. I then put in an HB-102 neck, Brobucker bridge, phase switch, push pull pots to split. OMG what an axe! I still own it, and I think I paid $1300. By the way, it was loaded with a double cream JBJ JB, and a JMB Jazz bridge (in the neck) when I got it. Since I took these pics, I put chrome hex bolts in the holes where the original stop tailpiece was. Looks pretty cool imho.

Here's a pic of most of the guitar before I did the changes (Jay Turser Serpent in the background)

Pawn Shop
$130
90's MIM Squier Strat w/Floyd II. Seen this at a local pawn shop and had to snag it! Only thing done is swapped the Jin-Ho tuners with black Carvin tuners and plan on a new pickguard. Soon. Plays very well and has decent pickups in it....for now!

The most interesting part on it is the partially recessed cavity. I imagine its meant to wobble like a traditional unit. I have it flat to dive only.
