Re: SDUG Ultimate Axe Superstrat HEAT #2 Poll

Problem with these SuperStrat polls is that you wanna top 5 from them but everyone will be voting for the "1" coolest in each thread with a few fall out votes. Maybe a thread with a post for each of the 10 and then the Top 5 "like getters" move on. :dunno:

Re: SDUG Ultimate Axe Superstrat HEAT #2 Poll

My MG is not a natural color but transparent bright Orange like the Gretch Orange over Swamp Ash.
the orange 102 is a great player but not the one I would have entered here. that was the ribbon 3-D Quilt 120 that is the real looker + a killer player. It's just that it is so pristine for an 18 year old guitar that it doesn't get played out as much.

Re: SDUG Ultimate Axe Superstrat HEAT #2 Poll

^ That orange Washy is sweet.

Re: SDUG Ultimate Axe Superstrat HEAT #2 Poll

remember, 5 of these go forward. Pick what you like.

Re: SDUG Ultimate Axe Superstrat HEAT #2 Poll

Wow, two for two Grover Jackson Washies, Ascension's truly is a clean-cut super-axe with a very striking peace of Ash :naughty:

As for mine, I do wish you will allow me a close-up shot better showing the Quilted Maple figuring which is truly stunning!

BTW, that is a Seymour Duncan Alternate 8 in the bridge and let me tell you, that is one seriously passed-over, underappreciated pickup.
Modern-sounding to be sure but organic and brimming with life and warmth. Way cool!

If not for Rek, it would have been a tough choice between The Blind Guardian, Ibby SAS and both the Washburns

Re: SDUG Ultimate Axe Superstrat HEAT #2 Poll

Wow, my REK gets some love here! Thank you very much, people.
I can tell you it plays great too, with lots of sustain, thanks to the neck thru and hardtail with strings thru body. :)

Re: SDUG Ultimate Axe Superstrat HEAT #2 Poll

I like that Washburn but the Chaoz Mexicutioner looks killer and the upper fret access is the ultimate.;)

Re: SDUG Ultimate Axe Superstrat HEAT #2 Poll

OOH YEAH!!! :headbang:

You know, you could have at least lied and said it only sounds "ok"

That thing is up there with Pete Crossleys stuff.

Re: SDUG Ultimate Axe Superstrat HEAT #2 Poll

I've narrowed my choice down to maybe 2, 4, 5, 8, or 9.

glad you posted a better photo as that top is really nice. When she is sitting in the stand it looks like its on fire the way that quilt pattern is bookmatched.
Here is a little better photo of her from when I owned it

and another with the 2 I still have. As nice as the top on the 104 is the 120 on the right is the one in person that drops your jaw with the 3D figure in the quilt. It looks like the valleys in the quilt are a foot deep when you catch it in the light right!!

Washburn flat used some of the best materials on the planet building these guitars. The attention to detail is stunning and unprecedented. It's the little things that you don't catch in the photos that freaks you out when you see one of these in person. Stuff like the metal control covers and the fact that almost every screw on the guitar is not screwed into the wood but is a fine thread machine screw into a brass pressed in insert and that includes the pickup adjusting screws.

I voted Green Anderson. Who am I kidding. That thing has so much class you should be able to get a degree in it!

Re: SDUG Ultimate Axe Superstrat HEAT #2 Poll

Wow... Gotta go with Itsabass' Cantrell.

Such a sexy geetar.

Thanks, mang! I'm glad you like it. It's not very complex – not everyone's cup of tea. But it's definitely a looker in my eyes, and more than that, it's an insanely great guitar for the price. It's probably the best quality-per-dollar 1xHB, locking vibrato guitar out there on the used market. I paid $330 w/ G&L gig bag out the door for it, but it feels like it could sell for three times as much. Even at the $600 brand new price without a gig bag, it's a good value IMO.

Anyone who wants a nice quality and great value in a 1xHB locking vibrato guitar should really hunt down one of these guitars to at least try. I am a big G&L player (have owned at least one continuously since '97), so I know them pretty well. The only things that feel sub-U.S.A.-G&L quality on this guitar are the tuners (who cares anyhow, since it has a Floyd nut), and the finish quality on the headstock (a little bit thick, and the decals are lower in resolution). But the fret work is great, as is the finish on the body, and the electronics (large Alpha pot and G&L M.I.U.S.A. humbucker). The Kahler is a 4300, not a 7300, but it works well enough not to bother thinking of upgrading, according to the Kahler expert guy at Wammi-World.

Clearly the Anderson for build, fit and finish. IMHO, the finest superstrat on the market and I've played them all while making my living at. prominent guitar store for many years.
