Re: SDUG Ultimate SUPERSTRAT preliminaries

Thanks guys! :)

I knew this thread would rock but I'm seriously blown away at all the sweet guitars!

Re: SDUG Ultimate SUPERSTRAT preliminaries

I have point blank assed the Aceman if he is going to poll anuther Custom Strat Category, and perhaps he's just too high up on cloud 9 to even deign to address such queeries from the great unwashed.

Therefore, unless I hear something ( or nothing) by 12 noon tomorrow, I will assume that there will be no other Custom Strat category for homo assembled warmoths/ partsocasters and the like, and that this space is the final frontier for such Strats , and thusly will fornicate my ownly assembled Custom homebrew Strat onto this very contest.

There's plenty of superior super strats up in here, but if I had to pick one it'd probably be the Model 5, though I don't think I hold a candle to the others, just wanted to flex a little :1:

-edit-
Huge pics are huge, so I'll just link em.

Man, I was in love with a 470 in that finish at my GC years ago. I still want one really bad.

Re: SDUG Ultimate SUPERSTRAT preliminaries

I fully support the above statement, Ascension, a man of your stature and impeccable taste shouldn't be caught DEAD with that aweful, ahem, I meant awful, thing. My good friend, you must send this hideous thing to me AS SOON AS POSSIBLE for proper disposal. I trust you still got my address from the last time right? :cool2:

And bro it has the same original Grover Jackson preferred neck profile as the "other" one does! This was a pre production prototype for the MG 122. Hope you are still digging the Red one bro as it is one of the very best sounding super Strats I have ever played!!
Yes I will keep you in mind if I ever part with this one.

Re: SDUG Ultimate SUPERSTRAT preliminaries

I've never seen something like that before. It's cool. I didn't know carbon fiber was used in guitars.

Yep and i love the tone of Graphite Carbon Fiber necks. This one has a Moses neck with SS jumbos and while it shore ain't a looker it's a flat tone machine!!

Re: SDUG Ultimate SUPERSTRAT preliminaries

Aceman must be in disarray. So many great looking superstrats to pick from. He's either gonna get really drunk and pick 10, ask his wife to pick them, or he'll just go "eeny, meeny, miney, moo". :D

And is it really necessary to post half a dozen pics of the same one? Really? 2, maybe 3 max. Save bandwidth and our prelim judge's insanity.

That's sweet! ^

But damn man, how's your low E sound on that bridge pup? Spacing's quite a bit off.

Using the OLD pups keeps you from having Fender spacing, but with the bars it's a non issue.
It's just an oddball shot actually.
\/\/\/
It might just look like that because of the angle of the picture.

I dunno. Seems lined up pretty well with the single poles.

Doubt there is any drop off with that big bruiser of a pickup.
No real drop off worth mentioning.

werd - could be a couple of inches away and still hear it just fine.

I totally dig that, but not sure it's 'super' enough. We'll see...

It's louder than hell acutally!

I was going for an authentic cut up look like somebody who was a VH fan around 1979-1980 would do.

I'm not diggin' the cream and white covers together.

Well, I was trying to be authentic, and there were no white buckers in the 70s or very early 80s, and like I said it's an X2N from 1979. Actually I hate a black bridge bucker with singles. The cover on the singles have been aged otherwise they'd be even more white.

Shut up, that's the coolest thing ever.

LOL thanks man.

The neck is GORGEOUS I didn't want to show any pics with the headstock in an open thread so my choices of pics to use was very limited.

Like I said, Scott (mrfjones) here on the forum built it up for me and aged it. Killer guitar with an enormous, but well shaped, neck.

Re: SDUG Ultimate SUPERSTRAT preliminaries

Gosh. Tough competition.

ColoBaretta, is that a current production SoCal?

Re: SDUG Ultimate SUPERSTRAT preliminaries

Dunno if this qualifies as it's not in my hands yet but it's on its way.

Are you kidding, I freekin' LOVE the thing, in fact, it was my axe of choice for last night's bedroom jamming ;)

Love the neck too, more than the one the MG-100 has to tell you the truth.

And I still have her bare stock!!! I am thinking of slightly altering the switching scheme but haven't thought about any other, more radical changes :)

Re: SDUG Ultimate SUPERSTRAT preliminaries

I wish to enter my superstrat. Its in fact, my only strat, and it fits the bill, imho, neatly.

floyd? check
hum/sing/hum setup? check

it has a pickguard, though, which shouldn't be on a superstrat, imho, and it also lacks a flashy paintjob. in fact, it lacks paint! its a raw alder body.

the neck is flamed maple, with a brazilian RW board, with a custom inlay (which confuses the hell out of me!)

the pickguard is solid brass, the bridge pickup is a motherbucker, the neckpickup is a stagmag/patb2 hybrid with alnico2 slugs and an alnico8 bar. the middle is one I made myself. its a 4,5k 42awg coil with a ceramic bar magnet.

I wired it on the switch as a regular strat switch; bridge/bridge+middle, middle, middle+neck, neck. the pots are different, though. master volume, master tone, and the middle pot is a volumepot for the middlepickup alone. the tonepot is rather useless, I don't use it, but it should be there in my opinion.

this guitar is so super-versatile. jazz to hard, thrashing metal, it does it all. and only because of that middle pickup! I can go from 'frusciante-clean' to 'alter bridge' with this guitar and my 5150 (modded to SLO-specs) with literally a flick of a switch.

its not finished to the last details. the locking nut has some shims, and I have to glue them to eachother and the neck itself, and the retainer bar has to be installed too, but I'm too lazy to do so. this guitar works so far :P

You don't have to delete pics - more eye candy is more. But I need to clearly know which is your chosen entry. It's hard enough picking ten, let alone picking the best of your ten!!!!!

An I am seriously procrastinating on this one....which isn't helping a bit. I may end up with two polls.

Re: SDUG Ultimate SUPERSTRAT preliminaries

My baritone tuned to A. A 24 fret maple baritone conversion neck from Warmoth with jumbo frets, warmoth pickguard, locking tuners, northern hard ash body, 1 meg volume, 2 Mighty Mite Motherbuckers and a Kent Armstrong M215. DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!
