Seasonal adjustments

I know in other countries, especially ones with more variable climates you have to set your guitar up for winter and summer, so to speak (wood expanding and contracting etc.)

I live in Dorset in the South of the UK and my guitar room is in the spare bedroom which is a converted loft. It only has one small window and as it is at the top of the house it gets rather hot in there.

Am I gonna need to constantly re-setup my guitars all the time? or should I put them somewhere else (not really an option, but neither is buying more guitars, but that's still gonna happen :laugh2: )

Re: Seasonal adjustments

i would say that it wouldn't hurt to give your guitar a look over when the seasons change. Some times the neck needs to be adjusted, it depends on the guitar/wood that will also determine if it needs to be adjusted.

Re: Seasonal adjustments

Acoustic guitars are much much more sensitive than electrics, but both can be damaged. I would say always keep them in their case and try as much as possible to control the climate of the room where they're stored. I did a lot of research when I bought my Taylor a couple of years ago. The ideal climate is 70 degrees (Fahrenheit) and between 40%-60% humidity. I live in Boston and see some pretty wild weather too... I use a room Humidifier ($80 US) in the winter because it gets so dry.

By doing this I've not needed a setup on any of my guitars due to weather.

Here's some good reading....

Re: Seasonal adjustments

I live at high altitude, far from the sea, so in summer it's hot and humidish, and winter is cold and very dry. You loft's heat might be a problem. Maybe try install an extractor fan somewhere up there (silent type) That will keep all that hot air from accumulting up there.. Get a hygrometer too, its fun to predict the weather to boot.

Thanks for the advice guys, some good reading there too, I'll have to keep an eye on them and see what goes on.
