Seeing double...

I built myself the purple Jake E Lee inspired guitar a while back that I posted about and after that I got an order for another one (with some tweaks), so now it purple has a blue sister.

Roasted quartersawn maple (with some bonus flame) on the blue and regular quartersawn on the purple with my contoured body heel and matching neck heel on both...

Re: Seeing double...

Is that the same purple they used to use on the So Cals? I love that colour . . .

Re: Seeing double...

Thanks guys!

No, it's stupidly over priced Audi velvet purple pearl effect paint on the purple one and Porsche aqua blue metallic on the blue. The Audi paint cost a bunch more than typical metallic paint since it's an Audi exclusive color but since it was a special guitar for me I splurged on it.

Re: Seeing double...

Nice ones! Haven't been around in a while, but i remember your builds from years ago. Cool to see your amazing craftsmanship again and glad to see your still doing this. I've always wanted to pass by one day and check out some of your work in person. I'm not so far from you that it wouldn't be possible!

I've always wondered, what is the reason for angled single coils in the neck and middle position?

Re: Seeing double...

Sweet as usual. Reminds me of a certain guitar I own ;).

Blank fingerboard big +1 for me - don't like dots on the front, mainly as I can't see them anyway with the way I hold the guitar.

Maybe I've asked this before, but can't remember - your opinion on q/s versus f/s maple necks.

So, I'd like one with a nice non-locking trem, please :D ;).

Re: Seeing double...

Just recently joined the world of assembling my own guitars. Needless to say those are way better than anything I have managed so far! Quick question... What bridge is that on those?

Thanks everyone!

Your location says Montreal, that's REAL far from Long Island NY lol. The angled singles was Jake E Lee's signature thing. By reverse angling the neck and bridge and bringing the bass side closer to the bridge but leaving the treble side where it normally is you get a tighter and slightly brighter bottom end while still having the warmer top. I flat out love it since I tend to like brighter neck pickups. My purple has the Jake E Lee correct SDS-1 singles in it and I liked the sound so much I put one in the neck of another guitar but in the normal straight position and they do sound different with the straight one being fatter on the bottom and the slanted one brighter since they pick up the strings in different locations. It's the reverse of why a strat and tele have slanted bridge pickups, to make them sound fatter on the bass side.

I've always loved the clean no face dots, side dots only look. These two also have brass side dots in them to go along with all the brass hardware. I don't use flat sawn maple when I'm using non-figured maple. My standard is quartersawn since I like the added stability. The only time I use flatsawn maple is with birdseye since no one seems to offer it quartersawn. In that case I also use carbon fiber stability rods to add stability and because birdseye can be slightly unpredictable, so better safe than sorry with some help from stability rods. I can build these with a brass vintage trem, or any trem really, no problem. Only thing I won't do are Kahlers, everything else is fair game really.

It's solid brass machined by Merlin 5 Products in CA, they're a machine shop that does a ton of different parts for the guitar industry.

Cheers, never heard of them this way. It does look solid though! Anyway two lovely looking guitars. Enjoy!

Mm, the rigidity offered by the c/f rods would also affect sustain I imagine.

Yeah. Floyds are cool but these days it's possible to get good tuning stability with a non-locking trem. I love my Ibanez, quite lyrical and warm sounding. I'd like to get a souped up variant one day with the same specs but rear routed and non-locking whammy.

The do a ton of CNC and other machine work for the guitar industry, unsung heroes really since no one knows them like they do Schaller or Gotoh and their stuff is all USA made.

Whats the fretboard on those? Looks like ebony, right?

Yeah both are ebony fretboards. Detailed specs and more pics on my site www.DAvanzoGuitars.com DA.007 is purple and DA.014 is blue.

DA.002 has carbon fiber rods and birdseye maple and it's a cannon of a guitar acoustically. Actually a bit shocking how loud that one is, so the CF certainly didn't harm sustain if anything it seems to have helped it.

To me everything is better with a non-recessed dive only Floyd but these would have been wrong to build with trems since they were tributes in a way to Jake E Lee and he's all about the hardtail.

Hardtails are the sh*t.

Re: Seeing double...

Hardtails are the sh*t.

Yes they are. If manufacturers would realize this they'd probably save a fair amount of money on (and sell a few more of) their entry level guitars rather than routing out and installing Strat style trems on guitars that they don't belong on. :D
