seismic cabinets

Re: seismic cabinets

Damn! That's a steal. Though I still like Greg's Pro Audio better.

Re: seismic cabinets

I've heard they can take a beating and have great power handling. But I've also heard that the sound articulation you get out of their speakers isnt the greatest. on a scale of 1 - 10 its like a 4. Thats just what I'm told though..

Re: seismic cabinets

The 2X12's and 1X12 Luke cabinets are supposed to be a steal for the price. But, I've read that they need some work ... They don't include mounting hardware (T-nuts + screws). Not a big deal. I think they can be front loaded or rear loaded. They have removable grill and back panels. They are 1/2" plywood, not 3/4". Still, for a low - medium powered amp I bet they'd work well. For 100 watts, or speakers with a big bottom end I think I'd prefer 3/4" ply. I almost bought a 2X12 to load with some WGS speakers not long ago. I got a pretty good deal on a loaded Avatar cab so I went with that.

Re: seismic cabinets

I have a couple of vintage Jensens from a 72 Fender that could use a home I might grab one of those puppies.

Re: seismic cabinets

I haven't tried one myself, but I've heard that you do mostly get what you pay for. The cab construction is lighter and less durable than it could be, and the stock speakers leave a lot to be desired. They're not bad cabinets per se, but you shouldn't be expecting amazing things.

Re: seismic cabinets

I can't imagine they sound "bad" that being said I am doubtful they are amazing. For someone just starting out, still developing their ear a full stack with a slant for $430 is a great deal. I am sure with some tweaking a serviceable tone can be pulled out of those speakers. I have played through worse when I was just starting out.

Understandable. I'd definitely go with an unloaded one. But like gearjoneser often says, you might as well not skimp on the cab since a lot of the sound is coming from it (I'm paraphrasing). Perhaps bottom of the barrel is not the best idea, but it'd be interesting to do a side by side comparison with something of thicker, similar wood.

Re: seismic cabinets

Personally, I'd pass on the Seismic 4X12's unless I was really broke and needed one, bad. 4x12's are always available used. I'd be shopping the used market. Or I'd look for that seller on ebay that has (or had) new Jet City 4X12's for $200.
