selecting a VERSATILE metal pickup

hello everyone,

here's my current setup:

Gibson SG with EMG's ---> vintage Rat distortion --->Marshall JCM800

i don't like active pickups anymore, too hot. i play a wide range of things, so i'd like something with good clean and dirty tones. i like LOTS of mids, and need the bass to be super tight. the Full Shred looks like a good choice for the bridge. i guess i should mention that i don't "shred," and i'm tuned down 1 step...sometimes dropped C.

for the neck...i have no idea. just need something that cleans up nicely and is really warm. suggestions?

i wouldnt look past the JB .. well, maybe the custom.. or the distortion... =P

This is not a pickup suggestion(sorry), but as far as an amp setup can I suggest that you check out the Engl e570(preamp) with a good tube power amp like the Mesa Boogie 2:90 or something along those lines. I promise you wont be dissapointed, so great for any application!

Lots of mids and a tight bass? Sounds like a Custom Custom to me...
I'm not sure if you'd like the full shred. It's NOT a high output pickup. This sounds like a high-gain-pickup is compressed into a medium-output pickup.

I think the Full Shred should work great for the de-tuned stuff. I really want to try one in that application.

I agree with Travis, the Duncan Distotion is great for heavy riffing and what alot of people are finding out is it cleans up rather nicely. I have a LP Classic loaded with DD's and really dig the tone in both the bridge & neck. Good pup.

The Duncan Distortion is bar none my favorite bridge pickup next to the JB. It sounds amazing clean too

I dont know... I still feel that the Live Wire Heavy Metal or EMG 81's are the best metal pickup, sooo much sustain, especially if you have a neckthrough guitar. They also rule for heavy chunking riffs. All a matter of opinion I guess though...

Custom. Better cleans than the distortion, mondo girth on the low end without even considering becoming muddy, and a generally pretty even voice, particularly for such a hottie. Can cut ANY style, as long as an "army boot attitude" ist a problem.

And handles downtuning better than any other duncan IMO, save maybe the Dimebucker

Im saving up for a ESP DV8, I dont really like the Jazz pickup. I like lead tone like Opeth,Nevermore and Iced Earth.
