Semi-Holllows ... Gibson 335 Studio

Re: Semi-Holllows ... Gibson 335 Studio

My mention.of. heritage 535 Plain maple was comparing similar priced new guitars...current Gibson studio at 2k and the Heritage at 2K.

I own a single pickup studio. I like it. Sounds great. Plays great. But is an oddity. The price on new studios has gone up $800 in 3 years....2 f holes..2 more knobs, binding on the body (albeit only black) and one more pickup. I think the 535 Pm is the better value new 335s in general have gone way up in the past 3 years.. Resale is tough...studio 335s no matter what year, 333s and satin 335s along with Heritage don't have the Resale like a standard 335.

FWIW, I bought an Edwards direct from Japan. Friggin' fantastic guitar, easily rivals any real 335 I played in the store. I have had a few Epi semi hollows (2 x ES-335 Pro and a Korean Sheraton) and the Edwards is far better, easily the best bang for the buck 335 I have ever tried. All in for less than $1K including shipping. I've had this PRS Custom 22 for the last 10 years, my benchmark of what a great guitar should be, and the Edwards was right there in terms of tone, playability, and overall quality.

Then, like a big dummy, I dropped it and snapped off the headstock. I'm supposed to get it back from the repair guy this week. Fingers crossed it doesn't lose whatever it was that made it so magical.

I think some pics are almost mandatory

Seen the Wine red Studios online for 2K and the Ginger Bursts for around $1600. Either way, they are over my budget. It would have had to be a demo or used. Given a budget north of $1600, I'd be looking for good deal on a Heritage before I bought a Studio anyway. But, I have never bee focused on a 335. I just mentioned the Studio for some input as I hadn't come across one. At any rate, given new guitar price, I think we are in agreement on the Heritage over a Studio.

^^ Edwards seems to make great alternatives to epiphone or Gibson. I've been wanting one of their Les Paul Specials for awhile. That's one gorgeous 335 tho. Makes me think I'm doing things wrong with my compact 336 lol.
