Semi-Hollow Ibanez and SD pickups

Hi!

I am supernoob in everything about pickups, I used to play on Fender Jaguar Baritone with original pickups years ago and that guitar sounded perfect for me. So I have no exp in pups at all. And I am originally from Russia - it was harder on that time to find the store with any parts that are not stock.

In 2013 I got for myself new Ibanez AM73B, semi-hollow. I never liked Ibanez, or semi-hollow guitars. But when I saw that one - I couldn't leave the shop without it)
I so I decide to upgrade the pups. After a small research I decide to get SD Antiquity. But when I start searching more info - I found that 50WATT tube amps warning and decide to get something else.

Thats how I got SH-4 JB for the bridge that I install few days ago.

So I am writing here with hope to find some help and decide what pickup I need for the neck. I like to play classic post-hardcore (halfstep down) with really warm abstract metal sound (like deftones' guitar on "Change" for example or battle of mice).

I love how my guitar sounds after the upgrade, I never expect that the sound will be sooo much better coz original pickups are pretty good according to the internet. So now I am looking for the new neck pickup, wanna stick with Duncan, thinking to put sh-4 jazz. Or should I put something not so powerful coz of the open body?

Thanks!

Re: Semi-Hollow Ibanez and SD pickups

I would definitely put a duncan Jazz neck pickup to go with the JB bridge. After all, the Jazz/JB combo is one of Seymour Duncan's personal favorite pickup combos. I use the Jazz neck humbucker in a chambered guitar myself and I love it. It's articulate yet warm without being boomy. I say try one out and since you live in the U.S. you can always exchange it for something else within 21 days of purchasing it thanks to Duncan's awesome 21 day trial period policy.

What's the "50WATT tube amps warning" concerning Antiquities?

B

I'm going to assume the OP is talking about the unpotted Antiquities and microphonics. Fairly recently, I installed a pair of the Stew Mac Parson Street buckers in a semi-hollow. They aren't potted either. I play blues, mostly. I'm really happy with those pickups and don't have any issues at loud bedroom levels with a bit of gain. But it isn't hard to make them squeal. I personally wouldn't opt for unpotted pickups with what he plays, especially if gigging with that guitar.

I really like the 59's but oddly, I have never tried a 59 bridge. I need to. At any rate, I agree that the Jazz would be a good choice. Not sure what's up about the concern of the Jazz being too powerful though.
